Title says it all.
You must design / choose a home defense weapon for females, a weapon designed for women, the elderly, etc, that can be loaded, reloaded, fired, etc by weaker individuals. What platform / caliber etc do you choose ? Myself, I’d probably go with something like the CMMG banshee, it’s 5lbs, short, light and compact. It’s easy to carry, move in tight spaces, but most importantly, it has basically zero recoil, the mags are small and easy to grip, and easy to load and insert. I’d probably change the charging handle to a side charging handle, add a shake awake red dot, and small light and BOOM, done. The 5.7 rd is around .22LR hypervelocity recoil wise, but offers better range and performance. My woman is terrible with a handgun, but deadly with a sbr 15-22 / ar15 with red dot. Even better would be a ruger 57 in a chassis, even smaller and lighter. I’m not saying other calibers , designs, etc are not good too, I just think, after years of looking for the perfect gun for my woman, who is not a gun person, timid around guns with weak hand strength, after watching her struggle with different guns, think these types would be ideal. Point blank to 200 yards she would do great with these. If she were alone, I’d rather have her use my sbr 15/22 loaded with CCI STINGERS, than a sbr ar15, as I know she could easily load, carry, shoot, move thru the house, reload, etc with the super light 15-22 vs a regular ar15. The 22 is not nearly as effective, true, but being able to hit, load and operate a gun with weaker rds, beats a more powerful gun they can’t hit with, operate, use efficiently. Well, the right answer is to let her pick.
Past that an SBS'd 20gauge junior/bantam Remmington or Mossberg would do the trick. That's what my 2nd ex chose and used. |

Either an MP-5SD or a Scorpion EVO with a decent brace or stock and suppressor.
Perhaps a laser sight and most importantly. Plenty of training. |

Mine didn't enjoy shooting the AR platform and grew up bird hunting with her dad so the shotgun worked best for her. |

Well she is more than capable of shooting anything I can, so she chooses an AR.
Just to start an argument on ARFcom I would put forth this thought...If someone has to have a particular firearm chosen for them by their significant other based on muzzle blast, comfort, or whatever excuse then likely they aren't remotely serious about firearms or take defense seriously nor have have they trained enough and really can't be trusted in a pinch anyway. Flame on! |

The single most common choice from people I take to the range is the same - man or woman.
An ordinary M4gery with irons. The stock adjusts for practically anyone and it's easy to use with comfortable controls. The fact that they can be had for cheap and are easy to get dead reliable is a further bonus. |

A female home defense weapon... probably a dog of larger than average stature and disagreeable disposition toward the unfamiliar.
If it must be a human female... my downstairs is all hard floors, so one of those roller derby women with a Mosin with bayonet would probably do just fine. The skates would allow her to get up some decent speed for the strike. |

OP, I respectively suggest that you are asking the wrong question. The ultimate home defense weapon IS a Fierce Female. Every member of ARF should try to acquire one and provide whatever weaponry the goddess requests.

Here is evidence of my position. https://nypost.com/2016/09/23/video-shows-woman-shooting-home-intruders-one-fatally/
Of course, this is Georgia... your state may be different. |

I was not aware of that Ruger chassis, hopefully Ruger brings out the pistol in other cartridges because I think that's about the perfect pdw size.

All depends on the person. Starting off new, maybe something easy to shoot like a MP 380 EZ for handguns, and MP 15-22 or Ruger 10/22, etc for rifles.

Most ARFCOMers live in a basement at their parents’ home. This is generally sufficient female defense to keep them away.

View Quote I agree, and the 5.7 rd is flat shooting and low recoil, makes a great combo…. Home defense, personal defense, compact varmint gun, etc. Ammos Just too expensive to plink with it. |

Rottweiler with a honey Badger disposition.
Damn, best day 50 seconds |

If you’re going to pick the 5.7x28mm, you might as well pick an SBR’d PS90. If you chop it to the standard ~10 inch length, then you get full ambi, less than 6 pounds, 50 round magazines, and highly maneuverable by design.. It checks your boxes better. My wife loves the one I picked up.

As stated already, let her pick. I don’t think firearms are gender specific. Non binary, so to speak.

Mine doesn't care for ARs. She says they are too complicated (coming from an ED charge nurse that does some pretty technical stuff daily). She shoots them fine, even the .450 BM, but just can't get comfortable with them.
She carries a PPS-M2 and is quite proficient with it, but her strong preference is CZ-75. She is extremely proficient and handles it well. That is her nightstand gun. Women are odd. She will not fire my Guide Gun, but has fired full power 350s out of my .454 SRH and does well with the .450 BM AR. |

|
Mine "chose" my 9mm PCC. As in "you ain't getting this one back" after she shot it.
|
|
My wife doesn’t shoot very much at all but she can pick up my AR9 and shoot crazy fast and accurately without any warmup or instruction. So i say a simple blow back ar9 with a red dot does the job.

870 w/ a 12" barrel. Room Broom
Or maybe a trench gun with bayonet? |
|
My bride enjoys the SP5k, but something like the Banshee or the 11" Bren 2 would also be equally fitting.
