I haven't seen that movie, just a few clips and discussions of it.

But wow, that character seems like someone I would enjoy watching die slowly and painfully.

That was him.

Somewhat different character between the 2 versions of the movie.

Good choice.

I'll add Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen

But he was the good guy

Gerard Butler is the slightly more well behaved version of everyone's favorite crazy uncle Mel Gibson. I'll watch just about anything with either of those guys. ?? @MelGibsonenththusiast

Solid choice in a “Holy fuck that could, and probably has happened to some poor bastard!” kind of way.

Heroes serve a purpose, often many purposes in a story.

But what kind of a story do you have when you don't have a physical antagonist? Someone who is dumb, crazy or just plain mean enough to move the story forward.

I realize that IRL villains and probably a few bad guys from novels might find their way into a discussion like this. I just specify movie villains to limit the scope somewhat.

Not a movie, but I suspect close enough:

Scorpius.

I don't like him. But I think I understand him.

Saw Louise Fletcher, and Staunton immediately came to mind.

Willem Dafoe makes a decent villain too.
