My neck, back and shoulders are beyond the fucked up and able to be repaired phase.   My days of lifting are over.    When I could do it, I was 182lbs and benched 230lbs. I miss my youth and post army days, push ups were like riding a bike.  Now the only push up I like are the ones that women wear and push up them boobies.

I think a better indicator of "overall strength" than just a heavy BP is a workout called "Linda".  It measures both strength and endurance.

That's a tough workout.  If you like that kind of stuff, check out strongman wod.  I don't think I've ever tried Linda, per se, but I did a team wod with three guys once that mirrored it and climbed in weight like three times and had sets of 30.

There's a weird obsession with the bench press.  Maybe it's because people are lazy and like to lie down while they're exercising.





The bench press is an important movement... in balance with the other 3 big compound movements (at least).  Press and Bench Press (with correct form) help maintain that muscular balance.

It's actually a "fun" workout and will leave you utterly exhausted. But the good kind.

Highly recommend to tape your thumbs and use plenty of chalk to keep the blisters down....because you are gonna sweat your ass off....and when I have sweaty hands I usually rip them up.

Just use 65% fo your max as your starting weight.

As far as assistance work, nothing too spectacular.  Mainly just close grip bench.  Some incline if I am feeling frisky.  No decline, no cables, no tricep extentions.

You do the routine 3 times a week.  Once you start getting up to heavy weight, you really won't want other excersizes lol.

I was doing 375 for 10 sets of 3, three times a week at under 200 pounds.  Thats a LOT of volume.

the whole point of the routine is to eventually do drop sets.  I mean, you can't keep getting stonger and stronger, you will eventually start dropping sets.

For some reason, I never really started to drop sets until about 20-30 weeks in.

But eventually, you go from being able to do 10x3, down to one set of three.  By then, you would have put on a fuck ton of strength.

I would always lift at 2-3am.  No one ever really around to spot me.

My wife recorded the video, and I was willing to take chances.

Plus it doesn't really even feel that heavy when you are lifting those weights 3 times a week lol

You did what I could not.......

I didn't get 405 until I was way over the 2.0 mark

I came close to 2.0 when I was much lighter but I never could make it
