Ask someone where the nearest pharmacy is, they will have what you need and you don't need a prescription for most things.

I've gotten bottles of cough syrup with codeine in it in Tokyo no sweat.

I had smoker's cough for a while and it pretty much knocked it out.

Air quality was usually poor as well.

I hope you got my suggestion before you got to the drug store. I gave you the name of the specific ingredient to look for rather than a brand name because sometimes the store chain you find might not carry certain brands (different store chains often purchase exclusively from specific brands).

Yeah, and knowing the English word for the ingredient you want doesn't always translate cleanly into the Japanese word that the pharmacist might know - even if they speak English on some level. That's why I provided the Katakana rendering (I hope that showed up on your phone correctly!).

I hope you are better soon.

Got it and showed it to the clerk.  He read it back as written.  Ended up having Tylenol.  Unsure of dosage difference. Guy said take 1.  I’m like “Merica”

Thanks again man, you helped a bunch.  I was pretty delirious when I emailed. A little better now.  I could smell the horrible curry someone brought on the Shinkansen so maybe not Covid

Finally got some ramen and gyoza. What sucks is that junk food seems ok on my stomach. Anything like real food puts me down for an hour.  Tylenol is literally saving me.

Another rough night of headache but I am getting better I think. The kid may be strating to get it. I went and bought him $100us worth of random meds to have on hand.

I'll take a minute to say my son has handled some complicated situations here. His Japanese super solid. It's really impressive

On to some pics:

Cool buildings downtown

Still on an eating trash kick as my stomach is handling carbs the best. Maybe if they are Harbs they don't count

I’m curious as to what they charge in Japan.
I think it was $28 for a Fairfax Sandwich, truffle Hashbrowns, and a cold coffee in Vegas.

At Eggslut.
The Fairfax, Soft scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, caramelized onion, and chives are piled in a toasted brioche bun smeared with Sriracha mayo.

The Truffle Hash brown are hash browns fried in duck fat sprinkled with truffle oil and rosemary salt.

It’s really good but that might just be Vegas pricing.
If I was there I’d be hitting up every Ramen place I could find.
Karate and Gyosa are 2 of my favorites.

Ha ha! I guessed from the location. I'm pretty sure some of the JGSDF guys you work with used to join my former Army Reserve unit on Zama. They needed to keep their English skills up since they were rotating back and forth from CONUS for training.

woke up in a lake of sweat this morning at 10am jpn time. fever finally broke and I was starving. No foodin a couple days except shit like danish and water had my stomach boiling but empty. I exchanged 1300us for a thousandbillion yen and laser sighted on a big mac. I ate that thing while my gut turned like a cement mixer. I was worried I would hurl right there but I choked down that Mac and chased it with a coke.

I hustled back to the hotel by 1 to make sure I was near a shitter. I passed out again for a bit and my kid texted to tell me he was with his university friend who is dating his buddy. She is an Aichi uni student set to graduate in March who was at my kid's school.

You may remember Ao from my thread I should have called "Japanese girl goes full 'merica"

Saw a few cool cars while out. The RX8 is not a car I care for but this one sounded rowdy

She helped us navigate trash separation, the laundry room, getting Amazon deliveries, documenting apartment issues, and finally shopping for towels, meds for my gut, distinguishing cleaning supplies from drinks and using the subway when your Passmo card is fucked up. For her trouble I offered dinner.

We went to a place called Gyoza no osho that she often went to as an Aichi student and it was stellar. It really was the king of Gyoza. The beef and cabbage was fucking smashing too. I said FU stomach and washed it down with two brain freezing beers.

Thanks for the pics! It is amazing over there. We went through Nagoya in the bullet train enroute to Osaka. Beautiful. The castle looks just like the one in Kofu.

Glad you're feeling better and hopefully can start enjoying some of it. The weather the 2 weeks we were there was mid 90's and 78% humidity. My wife was not pleased. I'm use to it from working outside. I already miss the food. That Ramen and dumplings we had at a few places and it was delicious.

No graffiti,  no trash. They take pride in their cities. Osaka was a bit dirty but it was full of tourists, go figure. Hard to find a trashcan anywhere too. Even the alleys look like they were swept clean.

What Is a Salaryman?
“Salarymen” are salaried workers in Japan’s corporate sphere. They are expected to work grueling hours, including regular overtime shifts, and to prioritize their jobs and employers over everything else.

These commitments continue into workers’ leisure hours; salarymen are expected to drink, sing karaoke, and patronize restaurants and bars with their colleagues rather than with friends or family.

Attachment Attached File

Salarymen are expected to work for the same company their entire lives. They are rarely fired and receive rewards for their loyalty and good performance, though stressful working conditions and high-pressure corporate culture often counterbalance these benefits.

The word salaryman refers to government employees and people working in business firms or major corporations. Doctors, teachers, lawyers, engineers, and other professionals are excluded, as are nightlife workers and entertainers – even those earning salaries rather than an hourly wage.

Though upper-class families and the more conservative pockets of Japan continue to uphold the salaryman as the ideal standard for their sons, modern Japanese youth are showing signs of eschewing these traditions in favor of a healthier work-life balance.

Nagoya is very similar to South Georgia in the summer time. Hot and humid mid 90s with high humidity.

I spent a lot of time in Nagoya over the years. It's a massive city more like a sprawling metropolis.

It's the asia with all the amenities. Language is not the barrier it was. Your comfort level with being an outsider and wedging your way in will determine how much Japan you will experience. If you have a hard time with the lack of connection you can just go and observe the place and still have a great trip. Its just so different on every level
