It's kind of like "Rocky Horror" in that it helps if you're high. |

I swear I went to school with a guy just like this. That's one reason it's funny. It's also a great caricature of Idaho. When Napolean is wearing the Rick's College shirt....lmfao. I had moon boots just like Napoleon's when I was a kid living at Mountain Home AFB when my dad was stationed there (late '70s-early '80s). |

I thought it sucked the first time I saw it. For some reason, I watched it again and it's been funnier every time since.

My nieces said I had to see this movie. So I watched it, and it was the worst piece of trash I have ever seen in my life. It was painfully boring, utterly pointless. I wanted my two hours back.
To this day, I do not understand the appeal of this movie. It must be I'm too old. But I kept thinking, 'really? WTF?' the whole damn movie. Movies I loved as a kid were Ferris Beuller's Day Off, Better Off Dead, Ghostbusters, Revenge of the Nerds, and The Lost Boys. I wonder what the Napoleon Dynamite generation would think of those movies. |

The first time we came back from Iraq we made the stewardess play Napoleon Dynamite instead of whatever crap the airline was showing.

My grandaughter explained it best "Napolean Dynamite is like a train wreck, you want to turn away but you can't". View Quote I could, and did. Quite possibly in the top 5 worst movies ever made. Perhaps the only movie made that successfully went start to finish without a plot of any kind. |

You have to watch it a few times to appreciate it. Hated the first time I watched it. 3rd time I was rolling. The first time I watched it I thought it wass the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Then it gets more funny each time you watch it You know what the definition of insanity is, don't you? |

It's not you, OP, it's them. I watched that abomination, just waiting for it to be funny, since everyone said it was so funny. End credits rolled, and I was still waiting. Complete waste of 96 minutes. View Quote Pretty much this. It's a shitty and stupid film. What "Gummo" is to dramas, "Napoleon Dynamite" is to comedies. |

Quoted: I swear I went to school with a guy just like this. View Quote I have the movie. Guy in my unit borrowed it to watch when we were in Kuwait back in 06 for 2 weeks on our way home, sitting around bored with very little to do. He will still tell me to this day, when I bring up the subject (with a smile on my face), that he would like his 2hrs back. |

You probably don't like the group Arcade Fire either. It is the LDS counter culture trying to go mainstream. Yes, Jon Heder and several others are Mormon.
Liked it better when we just had to put up with Donnie and Marie Osmond as the spearhead of Mormonism

The only people I know who don't like Napoleon Dynamite, are people who would fit right in as a character in the movie.

dont worry OP. I had to watch it 2 or three times before i just laughed my ass off. Same with Super troopers. Sometimes it takes a time or two to get past the "WTF am i watching?".

If coach woulda put me in, in the fourth quarter we'd won State.... No doubt about it!

I know the director from way back when, and actually lived in Preston for a short amount of time... I appreciate the humor as well as anyone can.
The movie is accurate. It is Mayberry will a nice blend of hill billy hell. |

Quoted: Quoted: The only people I know who don't like Napoleon Dynamite, are people who would fit right in as a character in the movie. That is a fact It's a very dry, subtle humor. There is no punchline, some people will never get it. It fits right in with my personality and sense of humor pretty well. I find myself laughing at innocuous but ridiculous (to me) things about people all the time. Yes, many people on here probably live in communities that resemble this or are a little too close to the characters to see the humor in it. It's weird enough to be funny but close enough to reality to remain believable, most people knew a weird kid or kids in school that Napoleon reminds them of. |

How much you want to make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains? http://utahvalley360.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Napoleon-Dynamite-Uncle-Rico.gif Say what you want, but that woman on the bike was gorgeous. Holy fuck, I just learned that was Aaron Ruell's wife. |

It has more modern aspects to it, makes me think it takes place in the early 90's, but some parts because they are small town USA, look 80's. I like it.

If you have the DVD, watch the movie with the commentary. The two guys that made the movie based almost every single thing off of real-life experiences in their childhood. The old guy shooting the cow was embellished for the movie, but it really happened. They shot the movie in their hometown. They had to beg some old guy to sell them the moon boots that Napoleon wore. They also rented Uncle Rico's van from a local guy. It's very interesting.

Better off Dead: didn't see it. Ghostbusters: 10/10 Revenge of the Nerds: features a rape scene, but pretends it's not a rape scene. 0/10. The Lost Boys: ssssssssuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuppppppppppperrrrrrrrrrr homosexual undertones. Napoleon Dynamite is awesome. |
