The hard line between gods and humanity has always been immortality (and to a lesser extent, the experience of "pain and suffering" as in gods inflict pain but do not themselves suffer it). Can a transcendental god ever share anything in common with the human experience? |

I visited a church in Israel that was dedicated to Mary. Many Christian nations contributed paintings of Mary. Mary in Europe is white with some blonde, some brunette, etc. Mary in Asia is yaller with single fold eyelid and depending on the contributing nation, different hairstyles. Mary in India looks Indian. Mary in Africa looks African. Mary from South America looks South American. The church itself didn't care as it was what Mary did & represented to Christianity that counted to them. I'm OK with that.

A monk who had been a historian at the Vatican said this in a presentation.
The Roman Emperors, over time, developed the myth that they were gods. Human until they became emperor. Their mothers were virgins and after death these emperors ascended to heaven. so when early Christians said that Jesus was born of a virgin and ascended to heaven all they were doing was comparing him to the roman emperor. |
