Pour water down the barrel and put the upper in the freezer for a couple of hours. Should be able to push it right out without pounding on it. Sweet tattoo.

I went on down to the fastenal dealer and found a palmetto packing extractor. I threaded the little corkscrew onto cleaning rods and pulled it out the same way it would if the snake and string were all still intact. Tapping it out was not working and the section that was still in the barrel was only the part with the bristles. Granted it was a shit 16A4 barrel but I wasn't gonna continue tapping on it when there are better ways. This is the same reason I use quality bore guides with rods on my precision guns. Quoted:
