Saw this on the news. Horrific. It was a week ago a well respected officer there was killed by a drunk driver.

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 12:30 a.m. in the 4800 block of South Freeway near the Seminary Drive exit.

South Division officers, Fort Worth FD, and MedStar EMS responded to an accident call involving two vehicles. The investigation revealed that a black vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and rear ended a sedan at the Seminary Drive exit ramp causing the sedan to catch on fire.

There were five occupants inside the sedan who did not survive. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Officer will release the identity of the deceased once next-of-kin has been notified.

The driver of the black vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment and then to jail.

Eduardo Gonzalez, 19-year-old male of Fort Worth, is charged with five counts of Intoxication Manslaughter with Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated.

Man, why do the drunk drivers always survive?

This shit bag better get life in prison with no possibility of parole. Drunk driving should be treated like premeditated murder. You choose to drink, you choose to drive, you chose to kill.

Most he can get is 20 years on each count, and the judge can possibly run each sentence consecutively. That may or may not happen.

Did Eduardo have a driver's license and insurance? 🤔  Was he a US citizen? 🤔🤔

This is the kind of information that should be included in news stories.

More info in this story

FORT WORTH, Texas (WKRC) - The driver of a Camaro was arrested after an alleged DWI crash left five people dead Monday.

According to WFAA,19-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez was taken into custody after the Camaro he was driving slammed into back of another car, killing all five people inside.

The crash occurred on I-35 westbound in Forth Worth, Texas. Authorities told WFAA that Gonzalez was speeding when he drove onto the northbound exit ramp and rear-ended the sedan.

Investigators told the station that the sedan was so badly burned that they were unable to tell how old the victims were.An ambulance crew told WFAA that three adults and two children had been traveling in the sedan.

"I can only imagine that it was a very traumatic scene," an officer told the station.

When speaking with WFAA's reporters, officers said there were "clues" found inside Gonzalez's Camaro that indicated that he had been drinking, with detectives noticing "patterns" during an interview that led them to believe he had been drinking prior to the crash.

According to WFAA, Gonzalez was taken to the hospital with minor injuries before being released to authorities. He is now in jail, facing DWI charges, along with five counts of intoxication manslaughter, per the outlet.

Drunk drivers generally experience less traumatic changes in force. "It's not the speed, it's the sudden stop. "

Folks stopped get rear-ended by dickhead doing 120, they immediately accelerate tp 120mph and all the associated trauma that comes with that rapid acceleration. They're subjected to more traumatic forces than the guy going 120 undergoing a less traumatic deceleration over time.

Make/model/year of vehicle, object impacted, speed impacted, airbag and seat belt usage, etc, would be interesting.

A 1980s rust bucket shitbox with no belted occupants getting plowed into a pole is going to be very different from a 2020 of the same make/model with belted occupants.

According to MedStar, two of the passengers were children, though no ages nor identification has been released to the public at this time.

When we were in Huntington Beach some years back, a drunk driver hit a stopped car with 3 teens inside and pushed them into a pole, trapping them. The vehicle caught on fire and they couldn't get out.  The driver got 51 years.

Same thing happened with the NFL player in Vegas. Slammed his corvette into the back of a vehicle that burst into flames.

I'm thinking a low-sitting sports car is more likely to slide under the rear bumper and make contact with the gas tank.

What are the three basic laws of physics?
In the first law, an object will not change its motion unless a force acts on it. In the second law, the force on an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration. In the third law, when two objects interact, they apply forces to each other of equal magnitude and opposite direction.

Doesn't look like he hit the car at 120 mph. I would expect a lot more damage at that kind of speed.

There were some pictures of it on Facebook but no mention of the type of vehicle.  Looked like some sort of SUV/minivan and the passenger compartment was intact.  If it weren't for the fire the passengers would likely have lived.

After owning a towing co for 30 years I have seen a lot of DUI crashes. Always seems if anyone lives it's the drunk driver. Some of these crashes are very tragic. A young high school aged scholar with excellent grades, sports star, or a family completely wiped out.  Lives snuffed out by a horrible decision. It effects many people beyond the immediate family. sad
