1969 Mach 1 barn find. Now a build/repair thread (Page 1 of 3)

I had a friend getting rid of his car, floors are toast and it needs a LOT of work. He’s run into health issues and wanted something he could enjoy.    Traded this- K10 on a C10 frame with basically everything new except doors/fenders/cab.

Bad trade! One of my biggest regrets in life was letting a 69 428 SCJ go! I should have kept that car, but from the looks of it I hope he threw in cash as well. Looks like a 351 |

The Sexiest Mustang. 351-4V is a fun motor, too. Congrats! ETA: Hard for me to tell (it's been decades since I was a Ford guy) if that's a Cleveland or a small block. Windsors are fun, too...I guess. ETA(again): Looks like small block...truncated valve covers and water outlet on the intake. |

| Very nice . I have owned several Mustangs over the years. You will hate the shock towers as stated. A shock tower cross brace and subframe connectors make a noticeable improvement in stiffness in those cars. |

This was the car I wanted in 1984 when I was buying my first car. There was a black and silver one in the neighborhood that was beyond bad ass. Problem was that even in 1984 these cars had rust problems and they were already carrying a premium. I can’t tell you how many I looked at, but they all had problems. I ended up buy a 1979 Trans AM. It was about the same money as didn’t have any of the rust problems. |

The 1969 Mustang Mach 1 is my one of my favorite muscle cars! I had a buddy in high school who had one and we would cruise around Stone Mountain park in Georgia on Sunday afternoons, which is one of my favorite memories during my youth. It was firehouse red with the black race and strip down the hood and created a lot of attention even during that time. His grandfather worked at the metro Atlanta Ford plant, and helped him swap out the 351 Windsor engine with a Cleveland motor. That thing was bad ass! Best wishes on your restoration and I wish I had the ability get in that game! |

Always liked the look of Mach 1's. That does have a 351 Windsor in it. Can get good HP out of them and be very drivable with a set of newer design heads. Stock is fun too. I have 2 Bosses a 69 and 70 in my garage but they don't have near as much flash as a Mach 1. Nearly every part is available. Be very careful with those door panels, very expensive to buy parts for. The reproductions I have seen aren't great. Take pictures from every angle and during disassembly. You can never take to many. Concoursemustang forum is a good source for information. No BS on that site. The moderator will most likely know the answer to any question and have several pictures or documents to support what he is saying. |

Parts seem to be pretty cheap for these things. Goal is to keep it under 20k all in and I’m at half that at the start. I found a lot of my K10 project in the summit outlet- I doubt I’ll get that lucky on this. I also bought/sold like 4 trucks to strip parts off for the truck and then sold the cabs/carcus for most of what I had in them yielding cheap parts. I don’t think that will happen on this because 1969 Mach 1’s in most conditions aren’t even close to cheap.  |
