I was at my LGS this morning and they showed me some guns "some old guy" brought in, two pre-64 Model 94s ('57 and '59), a Win. Model 12, and a H&R .22 revolver. The Winchesters were right high but fair in this market ($950.00) and I had no interest in the Model 12.

The 9-shot 5.50" barreled H&R however was priced right ($175.00) and in excellent shape. All steel other than the stocks.....I'm such a sucker for 9-shot .22 revolvers.

It's a SA/DA but like all the H&Rs it may as well be S/A what with a DA pull only a Nagant revolver fan would appreciate but the SA pull was very nice.

$175?!

What's you do - clock the seller with the butt and leave cash on the table? You stole that thing!

Great purchase.

That's a great looking single action for $175.00

When I converted an anti-gun friend in the '70s, this was his first handgun.
He went on to buy primarily Colts after that: multiple Pythons, Delta Elite, Trooper Mk. III (or IV?), Detective Specials, Mustangs, etc. etc.

I don't think my ears have stopped ringing since the first time I shot my Dad's 999 25 years ago.  Loudest.  .22.  Evar.  Pretty decent shooter though.

I have one that was my great grandmothers. She kept it in her dresser drawer. I haven't shot it in forever. Only remember the trigger sucks ass.
Cool revolver though.

Had one, sold it, the trigger sucks, and mine was not all that accurate. I think I paid $100, and sold for $125.

They sold for $50 N.I.B. In 1972.

I’ve got one. Belonged to my grandmother. She killed many a snake in the hen house stealing eggs. After she’d dispatch the snake, she’d stomp the eggs in the snakes belly out of spite.

Nice one OP! The first handgun I ever shot was a H&R Sportsman (later called 999 I think) I loved the thing and I inherited it when he passed away. I still carry it squirrel hunting sometimes.
Not my pic but just like this one.

When I was a boy I liked those because it was a 9 shot revolver and I could shoot 22 shotshells at  boring bees longer without reloading as often.

I have a 926 I picked up at a pawn shop. It has been a pretty nice gun. It is a top break in .38 S&W and just about the only DA revolver I have (out of more than 20) that my sister can pull the DA trigger on easily. I will buy another if  I ever see one but they are apparently rare to run across these days.

Good purchase OP.  I'd be all over that for $175.

Then value-wise they have barely kept up with inflation.

That was my first personally owned revolver. Saved up $75.00 (big bucks for a 14 y/o back in the late 70's) and Mom drove me to the Western Auto store (I'd drooled over the revolvers in their catalog for years). She did the 4473, handed me the box, and out of the store we went. I fired countless bricks through that thing, wore out the SA notch, so DA it was from then on. The Forty Niner is how it was marketed. Coincidentally, a current associate has one, inherited from his Dad, really nice shape, like OPs.

I have an H & R 922 and an H & R 900 2 1/2", solid little pistols, fun to shoot. I'd have paid $175 for that one. Good find.

Good score OP, H&R 9 and 6 series are totally underrated revolvers.

I traded a junk Suzuki 550 for a 649 with a 22lr cylinder a long time ago. A couple years later I found a .22 WMR cylinder at a gunshop and traded the owner a box of 45-70 for it.

Double action sucks but the single action trigger is pretty good.

Thats cool OP.  I been looking for one for awhile now.  I wish they were still made, they are basically indestructible.

Are you retired? You could probably start a side business - set your house up with an AirBNB bedroom or suite and charge a premium to arfcommers to come stay with you a couple of nights and you could take them to the gun stores where you get all these smoking deals.

As a side note - what are Model 12s worth now? My dad has several, and most of them are of no sentimental value - things he's picked up in the last 10-12 years and never shot - and I'm trying to convince him to turn them into stuff he might use.
