I keep getting advertisements for 45 degree mounted AR sights.  Seems dumb.  Is there a legitimate reason for those or is that a gimmick for the flat bill hat type?  Maybe for big fatties who can't actually can't square up a rifle on their shoulder?  lol.  Why shoot with your rifle almost sideways.  School me.  Not interested in them just curious what is the point?

join date of course....

It's to rotate off your optic if it fails. I have some folding offset 45's on one of my SBR's but it's more for funsies then anything.

Most real folks operating operations don't even fun backup irons now.

If you want to switch from looking down a scope to something close I can see the appeal.

You ever look through a rifle scope at something less than 20 feet away that needed shooting ?
Just because you fail to see a point, does not mean that there is not a point.

Quick alternative to a magnified optic.

Quicker to just rotate the rifle 45 than to reduce zoom, or even for an optic with 3 or 4 minimum zoom.

Personally I feel the laser fill this need.

I have them on 2 AR's. It's a backup if my red dot fails.

Quickly go from Magnification to irons without removal of the optic.

Same with offset or rider RDS.

They are for rifles with optics.

If you have a scope on your rifle you can’t flip up the rear sight without removing it.

With offset sights you can quickly engage targets at close range.

I have the Magpuls on my Recce, they work great.

I originally thought they were gimmicky gun game toys, but I really dig them now. I have a pair of magpul pros and a set of UTGs on my scoped guns.

I can spank the 200yd plate, then rotate the gun and instantly chop up the 10yd target.

Makes much more sense than standard irons on a gun wearing magnified optics.

Wait till you see the instagram pics of guns with non-magnified dots and 45 degree irons.

Go for the 90 degree angle! Only way to get street cred.

Well now I'm interested in getting some.  lol.

It started with 3 gun style competitions. The shooters were using magnified optics for the long range shots, and would rotate to the irons for close targets.

If your running a LVPO and it fails or if a target pops up real close and you need to accurately shoot just rotate the rifle a little and quick sight picture

On my 3gun rifle, I mounted a very small red dot at 45 degrees. Great for up close!

Chicks dig it, of course.

I have a 4x ACOG.

Added a 45 degree red dot. Really helps for close targets.

If I was clearing room(s) that offset dot is much faster.
