Well, I haven't ever killed one, so there's that....

This is the first one and this is the third summer, so two dormancies so far. The person that gave it to me actually keeps them outside around here in a cold frame all winter, and we're like zone 6. We have an unheated basement / garage with door windows and a plant stand where we overwinter stuff like this which has pretty ideal cool enough temperatures for dormancy.

Our well water is super low hardness around here - not sure if that is critical but it might be an advantage. I have many years old oligotrophic orchids that would die in weeks on city water (e.g that crazy Phrag. with the super long ribbon petals I posted).

It's in the kitchen most of the time since I usually use it to process pheasants, quail, ducks, etc. I like the smaller blades for breasting birds. I made the saya so I can take it with me on hunting trips.

It looks cool but sounds like it is mostly resin on the outside, not like a canvas or linen micarta with fabric feel.

Nice. I've thought about attempting it for my Waki, I've seen some three piece builds I've seen but the two piece router assembly may be a little easier. I guess thickness may be a factor.

I'm not sure what all goes into it, but the soil conditions are certainly a big factor. We don't get iron stains, etc., it tastes great, and it makes great beer IMO. It is regional in part. I also have some probably inflated idea that it is partially artesian as there is an intermittent spring in the back yard.

This is just Ca, but I used an aquarium test kit at some point and everything is really low.

It is near as good as they get, unless you go for some outrageously priced artisanal thing with a super-steel maybe. The mechanism seems very elegant but I have resisted the temptation to take it apart to figure it out because it is sprung and geared. The blades are geared together and diametrically opposed so they both move equally and squarely through the cut, as opposed to a scissor motion or one side being stationary. Very sturdy, easy to hold securely. You'll appreciate it. Xicar stuff all just seems to work and is a cut above average stuff with extremely well executed designs. Solid CS rep too - to the point of people buying used worn out stuff on ebay to send in and getting back new stuff.

I got mine from cbid for ~$40 but that was a while back and I took my time with lowball bids until I got lucky on an uncontested lot. They have them on freefall for $60. Freefall is kind of a silly "auction" where you just watch the price to see how far it will fall, then click the bid button when it gets that low again or close enough. You aren't bidding against anyone and the price just cycles down the same then resets - wait for the low point and buy it.

There are others if you search for Xikar, but here are two examples -

Freefall - https://www.cigarbid.com/a/xikar-xo-circle-cutter/4029868/

Real Auction - https://www.cigarbid.com/a/xikar-xo-circle-cutter-black-honeycomb/4030329/

To early for knife pics. Still working on coffee #2. I have this mess to clean up today. We planted it 25 or so years ago and it was to close to the driveway and house. Roots and branches were starting to cause issues.
I was amazed how the 110KS sliced right thru it!
