To me, this is just another Randall situation. Does nothing for me, don't understand the popularity.

Nostalgia?

I think some are decent looking but not worth multiples of thousands of dollars to me.

Also check out the Kusakichi (I love the M, haven't tried the V). Japanese forged with a knife edge.

Bachi Gata - no long handle but super effective. I have a similar one with a mid-length handle and a much bigger head as well, and that is a super power-house. Those are a little hard to find.

Hori Hori for an actual digging knife.

Bunch of other good options.

I saw that most were hand tools. Which has a place and is probably better for your back.

But also lacks a comedy aspect.

Interesting shapes on the knife edged hoes as well. Probably great on the brambles too.

Damn that is a hoe aficionado website.

Interesting blade on the bottom one. For scraping skins?
It's kind of a do more than one thing blade, like skinning and a meat cleaver type of blade. I've used the capping knife for deer, but never used the cleaver skinner. When I was a skinner at a taxidermy shop I loved using a boneing  knife for fleshing bears. I could peel the fat off a bear 1/2 at a time in about 20 minutes on the fleshing beam without moving the hide after I got past the beam itself. Usually had to do the other side before I took it all the way off or the hide was always trying to fall off the beam because of uneven weight. I can't imagine skinning a moose or bear with that blade as it's really thick and no flexible. The blade is sharp all around the radius though.

Didn’t get a whole lot done on the folder today.

Mostly helped teach a friend how to make a knife. He is making a bushcraft knife. I did the bevels myself since I don’t have any jigs and free handing takes a long time to learn. But I let him start them and get an idea of what it’s like.

Interesting to see things I am used to be foreign and difficult for someone else. Some of the steps that I thought of as easy are actually hard-ish for a beginner. Good for me to learn what I need to teach when teaching someone.

Attachment Attached File

Started on the cuts for the liner lock. This knife is very compact, it comes right in almost to the bearing.

Attachment Attached File

Also finished up the G10 spacer. I am going for what Kyle Royer calls a “museum fit” on these parts to help give some texture and to add some contrasting lines and shadows between parts. It also hides some sins in fitup though there weren’t any to begin with so that isn’t really a factor here.

Attachment Attached File

Tomorrow my first order of business is the pocket clip. Once that is done I can cut the rest of the lock in. Then I will shape the handle and then bend the lock and fit it to the blade. Final step will be grinding in the bevels on and finishing the blade.

Not convinced.

Sounds like this guy doesn't have anything on the legend of Kuraki.

I mean, Kuraki would rather destroy you than make you a knife, and if he did make one for you, he hated you. Deeply. It was like he was arming his enemies to try to give them a chance against him.
