It all looks good - how do you make the wine braised mushrooms though?

garlic, rosemary red wine herbs de provence and porcini mushrooms in a sauce pan covered on medium for about half an hour
wild shrooms are better.

Thoughts on the PSA 5.7?

We just had a PS90 in the LGS that I was playing around with. Breakdown and cleaning was simple and neat. I really appreciated the design of the gun but wish it was in a different caliber.

The PS90 looks good.
You should shoot it someday.

Grass fed beef is gross though. Grain finish at the least.

I love mushrooms, but probably have not had any of those.
I hope the blue ones taste as good as they look.

I'm envious of your skill identifying mushrooms. Skills I always meant to learn but never had the time. Fish and Game puts on a class in the Fall and I really should make a date with my wife to take it.

Yes, they are a "choice" mushroom which is the top of the scale. They were actually from my back yard. I get the smaller "bay bolete" that is a sister species more often and they have a wonderful meaty flavor (like think excellent ribeye).

The top two though are basically exactly the same as the real "porcini" (Boletus edulus) and Boletus nobilis actually used to just be accepted as just a variety of B. edulus. A bit more nutty / earthy than the blue one. Dried porcinis are fairly commonly available and there is a good chance you had those in some "wild" mushroom dish or packaged food (e.g. porcini risotto is easy to find) even if you never bought a pack of just the mushrooms. The texture is nowhere near as good as fresh but they have a really good flavor dried. Regardless of whether dried they are all wild harvested as they are symbiotic with trees and can't be cultivated. Extremely little chance of having them fresh in the US unless you collect them yourself.

You should do it - it is a fun hobby and a lot of the best edibles are very distinct. You can start just hunting for a few things but your chances go up the more you know about.

My advisor had his summer "cabin" in ID - the real B. edulus in the western form can get huge and can be abundant in higher elevation areas with patchy trees and open areas out there. He used to send me pictures of his 55 gallon drum converted to a drier with every single shelf full of cubed up porcinis. Just to fuck with me really. He was a good prankster.

FFL hooked me up at cost after telling me how horribly the cost had risen.

I asked him what it was and what it is now, he tells me, I say that isn't so bad, he says he thinks it is horrible, but quickly follows up to say it won't be getting better anytime soon

so I says, i'll take whatever you are willing to give me.

he says half a block

I says is that all you have?

he says no

I says i'll take it all if you are willing

he says no, I gotta save some for a friend

I says yer fuckin lyin

he says you'll be lucky to leave here with anything

i shut up then
