I think most of us regulars in here like the Inkosi or Sebenza over the Zaan. I know I do.

A lot of options around that range are lower production and fairly difficult to find in stock.

The obvious ones are Hinderer and Spartan. I really like Jon McNees's PM Mac2 3.5" and Les George's VECP. The VECP in particular has great grind geometry and came screaming sharp from Les.

Whatever you decide, I would seriously consider buying it secondhand on bladeforums or r/knife_swap. Save a few bucks, and most of them are basically new anyway.

Thanks, have you used the Sebenza with the insingo blade design?

I have been watching the EE for a used one.

I really like the looks of the Spartan Harsey Folder, anyone have first hand experience with one?

Insingo is the way to go for a Sebbie. Or a tanto if you're feeling spicy. Insingo is a bit more user-friendly though.

There's the first hand experience I was looking for. Great looking blades. Now to track one down. My HFB disaster folder, kershaw skyline, and Emerson what get carried most of the time. But I'm itching for something new.

Had a small sebbie insingo a while ago. Currently have a large Inkosi insingo. It cuts well, but aesthetically I just love CRK's drop point blade shape. To me, it looks like a knife is supposed to look. Like, if I picture a knife in my head, it's shaped like a sebenza.

The SHF is well built, but overbuilt, and has a fairly thick grind (i.e. the blade is "fat" behind the cutting edge). The main draw there IMO is the laser engraving they do on them. It's a tiny bit behind CRK in quality, also, IMO.

If I were only buying one, personally, I'd get an Inkosi drop point. Pretty much a toss up after that between inkosi insingo, sebenza drop point or insingo. But if you get a chance to grab a SHF with engraving that you really like, it's a fine knife as well. I don't think the plain version is worth it versus a Reeve.

Edit:

Current inkosi

Current sebenza

VECP

MAC2

Forgot about the Southard Tolk but I have an extra right now. Another great knife.

Good info. Thanks for all that. I've always wanted to own a Chris Reeves so I'll probably just keep an eye out for a used one and jump on whatever blade it happens to be.

@TheSixShooter

This inkosi is available on bladeforums at the moment. Not a killer deal, per se, but still $50 off dealer price for the that version. I'm tempted to offer him a bit less and see what he says but I already have the one above, so am succeeding in holding off so far.

I was actually surprised it took as long as it did. They didn't send it out until Wednesday or Thursday, I ordered the day you told me. Slow getting it out the door.

As to the quickness after it went out the door, there are benefits to living in Milwaukee. Shipping is pretty quick here. I sent something to a guy in Houston snail mail Thursday night, he had it Saturday.

The regular blade looks sexier, agreed. The coolness of the Insingo lies beyond that superficial analysis though.

It's mild to my palate, but decently flavorful. It's made by a local place that opened up and is keto friendly, so I thought I'd give it a try.
We ran out of Mrs Renfro's Ghost Pepper Salsa, so I had to make do.
