I like Emerson knives in that they are in that sweet spot of quality, durability and value. They're not inexpensive but not so much that if something went wrong like it breaking or you losing it, you wouldn't be pissed off. Now Emerson makes full customs as well but of course they have full custom prices. Think over $1k to $5k with real collectable models approaching $8k. So some enterprising men came up with a cottage industry of customizing Emersons from thumb disks to scales to backstraps to pocket clips. Some of the knives that end up looking like the full customs at a glance are called 'po-boys' after the sandwich. A poor boy's way of getting a semi custom Emerson at about 1/3 or less than a real one. Emerson seems to have embraced this set up. There's probably more than I know but there's at least three guys that seem to dominate. All make nice parts for you to put on or you can send your knife to them. Now I've wanted a Specwar since I saw one but missed out on the latest release. A couple of weeks ago, I found a Specwar-B (tanto blade) po-boy that was posted two minutes before and I snagged it. I have to say I like it so much, I've carried it everyday since then. Only thing I want to change is getting a better looking pivot and a custom pocket clip. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/60239/20221219_191634_jpg-2649868.JPG https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/60239/20221219_191655_jpg-2649871.JPG https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/60239/20221219_191703_jpg-2649872.JPG View Quote Needs more Zirc! |

I got mine on closeout, because they didn't sell. Think I paid ~$15
It was nice, novel, but too small. |

Peña has a cool flipper on some of their knives. It disengages and hides. I played with a couple and they’re definitely neat but Peña’s all seem on the smaller side from what I’ve seen.

Trying to remember, I think another company has it licensed from Lee Williams as well and is making a knife with it, but I'm blocked. Oh, wait, that F22 I mentioned the other day had it. But there's at least one more, too. |
|

Of course the real issue isn’t solved by the Lee Williams design, which is the abomination sticking out when the knife is closed.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you’re capable of great violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful, you’re harmless.

Consensus seemed to be Ritter RSK or Hogue Deka so went with the Ritter mini RSK for my niece. I shipped direct to her so will have to get feedback from her upon receipt.
Thank you all for the suggestions, hope she likes it. I'll get her to send some pictures as well once recieved. Chinese I know, but reall decent blade. Attached File @rbb2 can post a picture of a very nice FOX to make up for my China-blade! |
