More busted than bustin, but it was salvageable.

I got some skiff thick washers to try in place of the bearings on the Mac. As is it's a guillotine. Not controlled close at all, just a completely free drop.

I'm thinking about ordering some different thumb studs with a bit more texture/grip, as well.

Any Spyderco fans? Looking at Paramilitary 2 and I’m wondering the differences between the Cruwear micarta model and the normal PM2? I saw a video that said the grips wouldn’t swap. Is Cruwear worth it or just get S35vn?

Depends what you will use it for. cruwear is not stainless. aside from that, most steels used on the PM2s will do well most of the the time for most people. Except S30V. Fuck S30V.

That particular crucarta model is garbage, having owned one it’s a worse model than the g10 version. The action was trash. I’d suggest getting a regular g10 pm2 if that’s what you want.

S35vn, I’m not sure any of those are or even were available. Perhaps you’re thinking s30v?  People seem to like cruwear better than s30v. But the pm2 has so many steels available why limit yourself to those two options?

I think you can still get the s90v version relatively cheap compared to what it could cost… https://www.dlttrading.com/spyderco-paramilitary-2-od-green-g-10-black-cpm-s90v-blade

Interesting. Were it me, I’d bring the handles all the way up to the blade edge and put the makers mark etc on the spine on the tang. Little knives benefit so much from larger handles…

Cutting things I don’t cut with my fixed blades. Daily carry. I noticed Cruwear has the same corrosion resistance as 3V. It doesn’t seem to rust. I also read some guys say the new handle is more flimsy or something with the micarta.

Thanks for sharing your crappy experience. I kind of had my heart set on the Cruwear version because I put a premium on ease of sharpening. I really wouldn’t want something that’s harder to sharpen than S35vn, which is why it was my other choice. I can’t find one in stock however. I’d buy a 3V version if they made it.

I think the standard current ones are S45vn, which isn't any harder to sharpen than s30 or s35 for me. I have that S90v version referenced earlier and really like it. Still haven't had to sharpen yet though. The Crucarta has full liners and I think they sit a little proud of the scales. The scales near the compression lock have alot of flex. Was looking at getting one awhile back, but never got around to it. I'd like to try some Cruwear though.
