I think you can still get the s90v version relatively cheap compared to what it could cost… https://www.dlttrading.com/spyderco-paramilitary-2-od-green-g-10-black-cpm-s90v-blade

I never had an issue with 3V as far as corrosion, but generally in a knife that size I would be prioritizing edge retention over toughness and there are better steels than 3V for edge retention. S90V for instance. Maxamet.

I wouldn't listen to this guy konger. He is a professed Spyderco fan boi who apparently doesn't even know they did S35VN (I had one). If the action was trash it was probably his own fault. They stopped doing the S35VN a while back. S45VN should be comparable for sharpening and stainless. 3V would not be as easy, but if you are using diamonds shouldn't be too bad. But S90V and maxamet will likely be harder to sharpen than S45VN.

Was looking at getting one awhile back, but never got around to it. I'd like to try some Cruwear though.

but just the scales, not the liners?

I've got a set of (somewhat) thin micarta scales on a PM2 and I have never felt it move. The spring pressure of the lock is pretty light. So unless they made them paper thin, it's a nothing burger.

My example was probably a lemon and most likely was resold at the seconds sale after its return, the action was very poor which is the reason I returned it. Others report being unhappy with the flexibility and thinness of the micarta. That's also true. FWIW, I've seen an unbelievable amount of these for sale at the SFO seconds sale.

Even if the knife was perfect, I don't think it's better in implementation than a G10 model. On paper the cruwear and micarta seems great, but the frame flex doesn't exactly make up for a better steel. The micarta also feels "off", it's as if a sheet of cardstock is sitting on liners. Somehow they took a great idea and screwed it all up.

so, basically, a person interested in a PM2 should get a version in G10 and buy RGT aftermarket micarta scales if they want to be happy for the rest of their life.

Rittenhouse Rye is, IMO, one of the two pillars of rail rye, the other being Old Overholt. When I evaluate it, that’s what I’m gauging it against.

It’s fairly unique in that it mixes fairly well with EITHER Coke or Pepsi. Not particularly good on its own though.

I give the edge to the most recent releases of Old Overholt. Higher proof, non chill filtered, slightly tastier neat, but only mixes well with Pepsi.

I feel like all the places I go in a day - work, shopping, the gas station, etc. - would look askance at me if I carried a bottle of Redemption around with me. It’s a little too big to conceal, unlike the G43, Aculeus, and MDV-F.

How hard is it? I think you have to take the knife apart. I seen a number of warnings about disassembly on the pm2 on these scale ads. It didn’t inspire confidence. This is why I stick to fixed blades guys lol.
