ETA: I had the same issue with the clip. View Quote Aftermarket. I had House of Blades do it when I ordered the ZT0620 from them. They had posted a picture of a tan anodized ZT Hinderer they did and I liked the way it looked. So I sent them in an aftermarket titanium clip and had them do the whole thing. I figured that the blue would match any jeans I wore. They actually didn't charge me for the anodizing job. They had taken longer than they had estimated and just sent me the knife and told me it was on the house. Definitely one of the best companies I've done business with. |

I also used 1/8" stock vs the 3/16" on the rc-4. I felt like the -4 didn't cut very well because of how thick it is and how thick they left it behind the edge (~.040"). Mine is . 015" bte. I understand that esee has a ridiculous warranty on these and if they'd have used geometry similar to mine it probably would have resulted in a lot more warranty returns. I didn't start off planning to taper the tang, mostly because it doesn't come easily to me. I decided to go ahead and do it after I got the blade ground though because it lost a lot of weight and I didn't want it to end up too handle heavy. I probably should have poked some speed holes in the tang as well because it balances right at the front pin in the handle. I think I ended up with a nice knife that will work well but it feels like a much larger knife than the -4 despite being lighter and only 3/4 of an inch longer overall. I ended up with a 5" blade measuring from the plunge vs 4" on the -4. I had fun making it and I'm not sure what I'd do differently if I made another, maybe make the blade a little shorter and maybe drop the point some more. I'm going to make a pouch type leather sheath for it, I think, and then it'll be done. I started this project in this thread, so I thought I'd wrap it up in here as well. I did start another thread in the metal work sub forum that I'm going to post WIP stuff and just post normal knife pics in here. View Quote Nice! I have several blades with a distal taper on the blade, but don't think i've ever seen one in the tang like that, very cool. And I think you're right, with the thinner material it would be tough to offer a warranty, despite the fact it's obviously made to be a great cutter/slicer, you know some goober is gonna take it inna woods and beat on it with a tree limb and then complain. |
