I was on vacation the end of June till this past Monday. We drove up to see my wife's aunt and uncle in Wisconsin and her uncle insisted on sending me home with a care package. Attached File Some walnut, cherry, a couple of maple spindles, and a huge chunk of black cherry. I've been thinking about trying my hand at turning bowls again and I think this was the sign. Also hit the Rockler and Woodcraft in their area too.

Different kind of wood worker vacations, but I used to love taking Windsor chair classes at Mike Dunbar’s school in Hampton NH. Nice location, fun class (I’d imaging a bit like going to a Don Rickles show, with woodworking tools). And you come away with a nice chair and the knowledge and formulas to make more. I went up there maybe 15 times in just four years. Too bad he retired. Also took a class near Berea KY to make a welsh stick chair. And also made a couple Boggs style ladder back chairs, one of which was a rocker. These have woven hickory bark seats. One of those was in VA up in the Shenandoah valley and the other was in CT west of Windsor. Very nice area right along a great trout river. That was a good trip. Haven’t been able to do anything like this for several years |

The woodcrafters in richmond va seems to slowly on the way out. Especially since rocklers went in a few miles down the road. For us, it's rocklers way over woodcrafters. Nicer people and better prices. Also.... Woodcrafters had someone there that really turned us off of that place. |
