While I love me some ACOG, and own 2 TA31s, the LPVO is where it’s at nowadays and I’d take one any day over an ACOG today.

Big ACOG fan here. I wondered why the military went with the TA31 instead of the TA11. The weight maybe?

I've settled on the LED versions since you can use it for up close HD even with a light. Just turn up the brightness and use it both eyes open. The fiber optic ones need the RMR piggyback imho.

Right.

If I had it to do over, I would own nothing but LED. You perfectly describe what is good about them. I really need Trijicon to produce the TA-02 for 7.62x39, though.

What I really don't like is the green tritium. I'm just about the only one, I guess.

From left to right:

TA-44 on a Larue mount on the floor of the safe. It's green, and I just don't use it.

Red TA-44 on Colt 9mil
TA-02 on Colt something or other
1-8 VCOG on a 6940
1-6 VCOG on MR556A1
Comp M4S on PWS 7.62x39
TA-02 on BCM RECCE-9 (.300)

I have some fine LPVO's that I like a lot. Swaro and Kahles. The problem is that changing the mag on the run is slow. Then, I have to adjust the objective because while 6X is perfectly clear, at 1X it seems off. Not blurry but somehow disorienting so I have to adjust the objective focus. All this turning knobs on the scope is slow and makes me just pick 2.5-3X, exactly where the ACOG shines. Now it's great having the ability to have 1X, daylight visible etc but running and gunning or actual combat, I would just keep my $2000 LPVO around 2.5-3X. And no scope, NONE! will be as durable as a fixed mag ACOG and the beating and abuse a rifles takes just being carried all day makes me want something very durable.

As for RDS and 1X scopes, they are fantastic and the absolute best up close, HD room clearing shit. But in combat, the big igloo etc, once the first shots are fired, EVERYONE gets to fucking cover and becomes a sniper and even a 3X optic is a huge help in that 100-300 yard arena. Not to mention scouting and looking for threats, target ID etc.

Nothing looks better than a Matech under a TA31, a lot of unnecessary weight though.

I've got an older ta31 with no rmr wings. I'm trying to find a rm38 to retro fit an rmr onto my acog. Why are they so damn hard to find? When I found one they want $150 for it . Are there any alternatives?

Once I had my ACOG installed, shots at 300+ yards became stupid easy.

I do have a red dot offset 45 degrees for close shots.

I was highly skeptical and vocal about it, then PA sent me the 2x Prism. I put it side by side with a TA-45.  the ACOG lost hard.  Now I don't know what to do with my life.

Not a mistake, just...progress.  The 2X is indeed a handsome optic.  I assume it's not quite as tough as an ACOG, and of course there's no fiber-optic.  PA has been knocking it out of the park lately, though.

ACOGs kick ass. Let me think. I think I have three 31’s, two 33’s, two 11’s, two 44’s, one 45, and one 648 at the moment.  I may be forgetting one or two.

ETA wait I have four 31’s
