18 year old volunteer firefighter arrested for arson. Can't say I'm shocked.

Half of the then-largest largest fire in the AZ's history, Rodeo-Chedeski, was due to arson from a firefighter.
Thankfully this guy's fires were all small. |

Unfortunately there seems to be a hell of a lot of idiotic volunteer firemen out there. Arson is a hobby for too many of them.

Quoted: Rodeo fire was started by a volunteer firefighter.. I was building bunkers at the goldwater range then.. View Quote Paid part-time seasonal firefighter, not volunteer -- Leonard Greff set the Rodeo fire (which was the second fire he set that day) in hopes of getting called in and paid to put it out. |

View Quote I go to a Legion post and we were just discussing this, seems he really was into going Gung ho as far as fire fighting classes, they took him up in a plane to put out fires and the whole 9 yards.. kid is fucked now..sad really |

I just realized, he hit the Mobil station, not once, but twice.
That's the best place in Ash Fork for vehicle repairs, or at least, it was. I hope they can get it opened again, but I suspect there will be little to no interest in it. Jay |

It's 400 miles from LA to Ash Fork, the grade to Williams is steep so these truckstops will be crucial for electric trucks to recharge before going up the mountain. *** evidently he worked at that mobil station. May have met him, I think I'd remember that eyebrow if I did though.. I live between Williams and Flagstaff and we go to prescott a few times a month, used to stop at that mobil for gas often. |

There have been many wannabe/punks that set fires but eventually get caught. I have seen a couple in my area alone.

Quoted: Ash Fork ain’t Humphreys but it’s cooler than Phoenix. It is the kind of town where “age of consent” is a common topic at family reunions and that’s probably where Karson’s troubles started. View Quote @fightinghellfish You can tell by that Cro-Magnon appearance your assessment of that dude is likely accurate. Our place north of Payson is rife with that kinda look. |

Damn. He even looks like a pyromaniac. |

View Quote I worked the High Line for a long time. I am quite familiar with the Ash Fork area. They've been talking about building new truck stops in Ash Fork, and approving truck stop projects since Ted's shut down back in 2000, which truth be told, was a god send. I'll believe it when I see the completed project, but if the past is any indication of the future, it will not happen in my life time. And if it does happen, let the jake brake, truck noise, truck traffic complaint hilarity ensue, and oh yes, Ash Fork will complain about it. They'd be better off building a new one at Monte Carlo, but there isn't enough water there. Plus, I doubt Coconino would approve. Jay |

IMO most of the fires we are seeing this season are deliberately set.

Jay View Quote A pilot is being built on Ted's right now.. almost completed. On the west end of town they are moving a mountain to build the largest TA in the state.. just drove past there going to Havasu a few days ago It's happening man. Soon Ash Fork will be full of fast food joints, service centers and other commercial sites that will go with the growth. @AZCOP |

Quoted: IMO most of the fires we are seeing this season are deliberately set. View Quote I wouldn't say most, but it's certainly a big component of the problem. I know for sure there's a serial arsonist(s) at work in my general area that seems to be trying to get areas where the forest has some development (cabins and homes) to burn, and that the forestry people (both fed and state) are super aware of it but seem to be making an effort to conceal it -- I'm guessing due to wanting to catch whoever it is without tipping them off. |

Not all, but I have run across a fair share of volleys who are completely ate up. I’m talking tons of firefighter ink and enough lights on their POV to light up the White House Christmas tree.
