I shattered a tooth a year ago, and the implant procedure took a year to complete.  Expensive, but I firmly believe they'll find the tooth in my jaw when I die.  Heck, it might be the only one, because I damn sure can't afford to keep replacing them.

In the pic you can see the hole in the center of the crown.  There's a captive hex-head screw inside.  The dentist used a torque wrench to screw the tooth into the post, which is firmly integrated into the jaw by way of a bone graft.  Some cotton packing and cement finished off the hole.

I consulted with a couple of ARF dentists who told me otherwise.

You can get implants that cost much less than what I paid, but not the high-tech top-tier implant I got.

Don't get me wrong... I may have paid about $1K 'too much', but I trust my dentist's work, and had no intention of going shopping.

Sometimes it pays to spend money wisely.

Last implant I was quoted for was 2500ish rear molar

But it changes depending on the tooth and the difficulty in individual situations.

I probably won't get the implant but I did have them do the bone graft when they pulled my wisdom teeth and the damaged molar.

Got one of those as well.  Did the bone graft one year, the rest the next year, to solit what insurance would cover.

Agreed. I did four molars at once - a year whose memory I don't cherish - and it was worth it @ $17K. I've felt the change in my life.

Redneck loctite. They just cross thread it in.

Just got two screws in Tuesday.

Extraction and graft $1,200

Two screws $4,400

Lady endo was a ninja master. Drilled and put the screws in in like 15 minutes. No pain, and barely sore afterwards.

Go back in Feb for follow up and then crowns will probably be $1,500 each.

Lost # 19 way back and had a bridge over that. #20 supporting the front of the bridge finally gave out so that’s why two at a time.

Getting old sucks. And can be expensive.

4000 for mine.

Its been in for 16 months and its perfect.

Insurance cover a bunch of it and my FSA account covered the rest.

Get your teeth done now while its possible.  When the socialists take over it will not be  available or very low quality or both.

I got three crowns in this year to replace large fillings. My youthful days were full of sugar.

This is relevant to my interests, because I broke a tooth Friday.

You say it cost you $10K.  Is that out of pocket?

No dental insurance?

Or is that your part after insurance?

Those little torque wrenches are a cool thing.  "click...click....click....tink"  All done!

Took me a few years to get mine done, but I'm glad I had it done, and even happier that I didn't pay for it!  The last orthodontist I had was a teacher at the UofP dental school and she said the whole job for me was like 40K worth of work.

This is the kind of stuff we need to, also what torque setting for a tooth?  I assume it is smaller than  1/4" drive

I've had 2 done.  They were both $2,500 to the oral surgeon to put the hardware in my jaw and another $2,000+ to get that topped off by my regular dentist.  I had dental insurance back then, so the total may have been more.

I have 2 friends who are having all of theirs done.

One had some sort of dental disease. His dentist said there was nothing he could've done and no amount of brushing or flossing would've prevented it; it just happens. The other started losing his due to the medication he was taking for his bad back. He's currently in talks with an attorney.

Holy shit. I did the same a few years ago and something keeps coming up to burn through my FSA. This year it was knee surgery. I'm crossing my fingers that I can finally get started this year. I need to double check the expected cost with my dentist. Actually, I probably need to find a new one. I like mine but he stopped taking our insurance.

I dismissed some minor tooth pain for a couple of months.  One night I bit down on a sausage, caught a piece of hard gristle, and the tooth splintered into a number of pieces.

Nice. I had two done a couple years ago in the front (motorcross accident when I was young) and they were about $5K each.  Insurance paid about half.

I LOVE them. I had a bridge before and hated it. These are like nothing happened.

I have one on the exact same tooth.  It also cost $6K (At La Jolla Oral and Facial Surgery Inc.,) but took only 12 weeks from start to finish.

Congrats!

My four upper front teeth are crowns.  The dentist did them all at once, and it cost me $5,000 total.  That was about 20 years ago.

I wish I'd taken a picture of the posts after he'd ground them down.  Now THAT would have been a gross pic.

The drugs work.  BTW ibuprofen is more effective on dental pain than opioids.  Make a note of it.

After extracting the broken tooth, the dentist filled the hole with some sort of granular bone substitute.

That has been healing for three months.

Back at home; implantation procedure took about 20 minutes.

Zero pain during procedure.

Only complication: half my face still numb, and I keep spilling the coffee I'm drinking down onto the front of my shirt.
