For the tequila the trianon can be great. If you flip it over on the back it will tell you which NOM it was made at. If you see one that says made by cascahuin, grab it. also see the mezcal marca negra hiding on the left right there. I love that stuff. Their espadin taste like peaches and mint. |

Actually, I think this one has more in common with the Blanco than the Reposado does. Even carries the pepper on the tongue. Again, perfect amount of oak. This one just popped up at Binny's a couple weeks ago.

 Final one of the three I have. Admittedly Los Patos has been my least favorite estate of the ones I have. It just seems kind of lacking. Earthy with not a lot to make it pop as much as the others. It will be interesting to see how it changes with more air time in the bottle. At neck pour I didn't really like Siete Leguas, but after the bottle got about half empty it changed a lot for the better. Time will tell!

It's getting a little cooler outside, which to me means it's time for more spirits and less beer drinking. My neighbor and I polished off a bottle of Tres Agaves blanco this evening, I thought it was pretty good. Fortaleza was great too, Fortaleza is always good. I'll probably pick up another bottle of that, and maybe something else. Seems like Tequila Ocho is pretty well regarded overall. |

And here. We. Go! Well, this is my first Tobala mezcal. On the nose it is very similar to the Vago Elote that I have, sans corn. The smokiness is very toned down here. Now I'm still not sure how to describe mezcals, but then again I'm not sure you're supposed to dissect them. I will say that this is sweet, a little smoke, slightly tropical. Definitely a tasty dram. Fruitiness abound here. No bitterness, but a slight bit of whatever wood they cooked it with (right on the label, leña: endino y enebro) on the finish. Only a bit though. Very oily mouthfeel. Even though I have a novice palate I would say it is well put together, whatever the hell I mean by that.... It's good.  ETA: To expand on the fruitiness: grilled pineapple, coconut, banana runts, citrus zest (orange, grapefruit, lime, not so much lemon). |

New haul. Guy at Binny's pointed out that they finally had Tapatio. If WOAFP is a 20-something-year-old latino dude who works at Binny's, then I think I met him today. He caught me eyeing the ArteNOM 1146 and the mezcals next to it and made it very clear he was knowledgable on agave spirits. Basically was this thread's Original Posts information-wise. Had a great chat on how awesome Los Hermanos Camarena(s?) are. Dude is basically the first agave spirit expert I have met in person. It was neat! Yeah, CSB.

I know I said Los Patos was my least favorite of my Ochos. That just means I need to keep revisiting it. Never said I didn't like it. Just not something I would frequently be in the mood for. Also, barrel proof bourbon really fucks your palate. Best to start with something more delicate first.

An interesting one for tonight. El tequileño reposado rare. This actually spent 6 years in a barrel but can't be called an anejo or extra anejo because of the size of the barrel. It was aged in massive wine vats so they called it reposado rare. Very interesting stuff.

10 years, french oak, cask strength, traditional production. That checks a lot of boxes for trying stuff. Being san matias definitely helps for that too
