There’s no nanny and/or pollution control shit that can be installed on a vehicle which can’t be bypassed by a buzzed redneck.

"Obviously we need to do something" is one of the most dangerous phases I can think of. It should never be obvious the government needs to do something, and the mindset that doing anything is better then doing nothing is the root of much government overreach.

Well I have an '09 with 196K on it, and a '99 with 120K on it, drive them both so if you take care of them they last.

Keep old one, buy a new diesel now and you will be set for life.

We can. Either a "one and done" or the first one gets you a severe fine and loss of license for a year or two. Get in an accident, loss of license for life. Kill someone or injure someone, prison for minimum 10 years.
Why punish innocent people with this nonsense. Wait, that seems to be the way of government.

Don’t think “false positives” and thwarted attempts won’t be logged and shared with DMVs and insurance companies.

Automakers are probably ecstatic about this.
Charge more for their product AND get to service it monthly (my bet is the systems will be proprietary and dealers will argue for it to stay that way for “public safety”).

It's bad enough that anti-theft systems can leave you stranded when they fail now they want to put this hunk of crap in?

It'll take all of a week before someone starts marketing a bypass module to eliminate the damn thing and then all they did was add more cost to the vehicle.

It won't stop a damn thing because the worst offenders will be the very first to get the bypass installed.

Just another reason I will never own a new vehicle again. I'll just keep buying older vehicles and making them better than new.

Not surprising to me... look at all the communist asshole dickheads who think it's a great idea to mandate corona vaccines -- or else you get fired (they'd prefer if you went to prison).

Not surprising at all - and from the same people who LOVE illegals even when they drive without a license or intoxicated and kill American citizens and are never deported.

Give me A/C and cruise control, and that's good enough for me.  I don't need power anything, I don't need auto dimming mirrors, heated seats, etc.  It's all nice to have, but I would skip 87% of the new tech in cars if it would shave a few thousand off the price.

Karens out to ruin everything.

Sucks that some people lost their loved ones due to a DUI.   But some kf them are such militant hateful shrill women that they reall should just not participate in society AT ALL.

Have dealt with one specifically that really is just a gigantic bitch that needs to get a life.

It's in the infrastructure bill, passed and signed.

No matter your feelings on this particular issue, it underscores the need for single-subject bills. It should not be permitted to write a bill about one thing and slip something entirely unrelated in there. I mean, 20,000 page bills on healthcare might have an assault weapons ban on page 13,223 and we'd never know until our doors start getting kicked in.
