This is a weird series.

I like the story concept. I like the lost in time do gooder boy scout High Guard shit.

The episodes storylines aren't terrible.

Kevin Sorbo is Kevin Sorbo. Tyr's actor is absolutely terrible. The rest of the cast are bearable.

The ship designs are OK. The weapons are ok.

The alien makeup is probably the worst of any sci fi series ever.

The fight scenes are pretty ridiculous.

Any fans?

I give it a solid 5 outta 10.

The first couple of seasons were good.  Roddenberry combined his man from the past, Dylan Hunt, with elements from an unsold pilot script about a sentient starship to come up with Andromeda.

Another rework of concepts brought us Data in ST:TNG, who was a conceptual descendant of Questor of Rodenberry's The Questor Tapes.

I'm almost done with season 1.  Best thing about it is Andromeda.  Sexy ship with an even sexier avatar

Yeah, the ship is stylish AF.

I like the High Guard staff weapon as well,

Respectably good through the first half of season two then clear off the rails,
apparently some of that being Sorbo's doing (he really didn't understand TOS
and made some misguided decisions based on that misunderstanding.)

I thought the character of the Reverend was brilliant, but that poor actor got
so messed up from the makeup he had to bail out mid season, and that was
just one marker of it going off.

And yes, Lexa Doig is hot, as is Lisa Ryder, and they appear together in Jason X
with considerably less costume coverage.

Holy crap, I'd completely forgotten The Questor Tapes. I loved that movie as a kid and must have read the novelization 87 times.

First... all sci fi (to a certain extent) is good. They all have their flaws, but that someone spent that much to give us content is awesome.

This show is great for what it was.. the budget.. the era. Definitely soap opera esque action haha.. but fun. Not as dry as Babylon 5, and with better graphics. Its no farscape.. but its a nice departure from the crap that was on TV back then.

Supposedly it was originally the far future of the Star Trek universe, with the Federation fallen and a Federation captain out of time with his ship trying to rebuild it.  But rights issues killed that.

So instead Andromeda gets some off-brand aliens where the magog that lay millions of eggs in the sentients they consume are also humanoid, and Trek gets whatever Nutrek Alex Kurzman feces gets smeared with palsied fingers onto streaming.

Actually, I liked the Genesis II version of Dylan Hunt much better.  I feel that post-apocalyptic Earth and the NASA astronaut from the past would have had some interesting adventures.  Star Trek: The Motion Picture's premise came from a Genesis II script, Robot's Return.

Roddenberry recycled quite a few ideas to come up with winning combinations.

Yeah, while I'd have loved to see that picked up as a series, I suspect Data would never have existed if it had happened.

Really good series but like all the excellent sci-fi series it got messed with pretty bad by the studios and network.

They ended up waffling between a long story arc and a serialized weekly Hercules type show due to network demands.

Lexa is the most attractive woman on the planet.

Do yourself a favor and skip the final season. It's the same for Earth Final Conflict. Both final seasons are a bag of ass.

I've seen in all the way through before. I'm rewatching it.

I don't mind episodic sci-fi with a serialized background story. It gives a series direction. Enterprise did that quite well. Unlike many others, I really liked Enterprise because they would get in gunfights all the time instead of just trying to think their way out of everything like in TNG.

ENT, while having its issues, was underrrated and killed to early IMHO.  It was nice seeing starfleet not being one of the superpowers who just wants to 'hug it out' with everyone.  Andromeda also wasn't a bad series, but it felt kind of manic sometimes.  I suspect it suffered from some of the weirdness that came out of Gene Roddenberry's brain.

I finished Voyager about 5 weeks ago.
I was going to do Enterprise then TOS after,
But sat Andromeda listed on prime and remembered this thread.

I don’t think I ever saw a full episode when it originally aired.
I had seen some of some episodes-
And never really got the gist of what was going on.

Hercules looked like he had gotten real sick or something vs his last series.
I didn’t quite get the funny looking chick.
The pilot has the build / look of a 16 year old looking like 25 I had dated some in the 80s, but at the time I was like- she looks like 40 something but only 30.  Not hot to me at the time but now….
The super warrior guy- but also a super coward for self preservation, another super warrior guy that was the same but not the same character, a bat priest guy who disappeared, and a video/hologram/robot trinity that looked like a half Phillip in a/half American GI chick I also dated in the ups that was a lot of fun-
-it just seemed like a mess.
Or something you needed to watch all of and keep up with for it to be good.
Someone at the time said it was Star Trek - like 2500 years after TOS/TNG/DS9/Voyager- but they can’t call it star trek, federation, star fleet, warp, etc.
And starts as the romulans or Klingons, that you can’t call romulans or Klingons, betrays the federation and destroys it.
Then pulls a Buck Rogers/rip van winkle for a few hundred years and basically takes his enterprise/data and adopts a Klingon, boffin/jordie/scotty, yar/7of9/kira, crusher/kes/troi- but you can’t call them that-
And goes to restart the federation.
This show kind of overlapped Voyager and Enterprise and I wasn’t really seeing any of that at the time-
So it never really caught my interest.
Plus when it started I had a couple of kids, a move, another kid, another move by the time it ended, and pretty demanding and serious jobs.
I wasn’t really seeing any TV regularly.

I’m finishing up the first season.
It’s a little uneven-
But following the gist of it it’s not as horrible as I recollect.

Ok-
I was enjoying the camp and the arc of building up over some seasons to a show down with the big bad closing in and going to kill everyone…

Spoiler alert-
And then- bam-
Everyone dead and then reincarnated and some non working ship,
Trapped on planet, no “warp” drive-
The captain is bred from some mythical race…

I have no idea WTF happened or WTF is going on.
There is a new android that is kinda sorta the ship android but looks different but not really…
Man- I was warned, it seriously did go off the rails.

Yeah the final season got derailed by several factors but you can mostly blame Michael Shanks for getting Ms. Doig very very pregnant for the first half of the season.    On second thought I can't really blame him at all.

Trivia fact- the original theme song was written and recorded by Alex Lifeson of Rush. It was very cool. Sorbo didn't like it so he had them change it to the most generic, boring "hero" type theme song ever.

Yeah, I noticed it had a good, unique theme song- some top shelf work whether it’s my taste or not,
Then it was gone and generic bottom shelf theme.

Sure, that threw stuff off-
But there is way more going off the rails than her doing  Chuck Cunningham and a new cousin Oliver android.

It would be like if Deep Space 9 didn’t just have Dax leave and get replaced,
But also the Changelings basically just disappeared in a blaze, everyone died, then Sisko woke up on a dead station orbiting a planet, found out he was born of a special god like alien… oh wait..
Then started hanging out on some planet with his buddies who were dead, going on adventures in Boston with Spenser while clashing with Lt. Quirk,  there were no more cardassians, etc.

To be fair, that sounds like it would be an interesting episode.  But def wouldn't want to see it for a whole season.

Good god it was painful to finish.

I have no idea what the end is.

They killed the big bad world ship, but it came back, but they killed the big bad leader, so the ship is gone too?  And earth blew up, but are the nicheans cool now or still aligned against,

I literally have no idea.
And I lost track of trance changes/swaps, or how all the other trances didn’t know the trance leader was the big bad, etc.

I’m no stranger to low budget syndicated sci fi over the decades.
But that was quite the flame out.
