Damn right I do - end credits of Mortal Kombat (the movie).

@saltybrad

100% chance we crossed paths at some point or actually know each other. I worked at Marz for a while, helped Mirsky get it up and running. MANY MANY late nights and after hours there after the doors closed.

Good thread  mid/late 80's baby here.  I remember this one but was more into Darude and ATB when I was a bit older.  Lots of house music and local DJs in and around Chicago, too.

Chicago was the birthplace of it all as far as Im concerned. Between that and the UK pulling various elements from each local variants, it gave birth to a movement that was underground house music.

My signal sucks so I’m just getting the spinning loop and not a video. But it looks like Halcyon from Orbital. That was on the Hackers soundtrack. If you haven’t seen Hackers, young Angelina Jolie goes topless for a sec. Ended up marrying co-star Johnny Lee Miller if I remember correctly, but it didn’t last long. He ended up being Sick Boy in Trainspotting, which had some good electronic music itself. Particularly “Final Hit” by Leftfield and of course “Born Slippy” by Underworld.

I never could get into Orbital.

I did see Darude in 2001 at a little venue in Traverse City, MI.  Went to the Detroit Electronic Music Festival that same year.

Definitely, if you were there watching Green Velvet perform LaLa Land.

Only went in 2000 and 2001. Remember all the kids walking around in the "Ford Fuck-Us" t-shirts in 2001?
*** (for folks who weren't there. DEMF started in 2000. In 2001, after seeing how many people the first one drew, Ford decided to sponsor the 2nd DEMF, to advertise the Ford Focus, and plastered Ford banners everywhere. Apparently, some people heard about it and objected to wgat they saw as the corporatization/commercialisation of their EDM festival, and printed up a ton of "Ford Fuck-Us" t-shirts). Ford chose not to sponsor the event the following year

Bingo! Recognized it immediately from the Hackers soundtrack.  The crappy movie I will watch anytime I run across it.

Can't say I ever heard that. Some version of it is still ongoing AFAIK. I  know it's Detroit, but EDM events don't tend to draw the violent idiots. No way I'd be caught dead going to Detroit for any kind of rap/hip-hop festival.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Electronic_Music_Festival

Seems like it changed names (different producers/organizers) a few times, but sounds like it's still around (after a Pandemic pause).
