Iv only seen a few green snakes at my house in 7 years of living here, however,  this year iv seen 3 king snakes in the last 2 weeks, hanging out by driveway, and today big one in flower bed, luckily wife didn't find him yesterday when weeding as she'd have died.  Lol.

My cat is named murder cat, he kills everything,  seen him with a lot of snake kills, but he ran from this one.

I don't bother the harmless snakes, but I generally kill dangerous ones in living spaces, iv just never seen a dangerous one at this house, which is odd as we are surrounded by woods, and have a big creek, and big over grown wet field next to my house, I'm surprised we're not butthole deep in copper heads , cotton mouths n water moccasins.

Living in northern Florida snakes were pretty common, living in homestead / southern florida surrounded by swamps, palmettos, canals, etc ....huge snakes wrapped around yard bushes / landscaping basically everyday wasnt unusual at all.

Today.

The norm here is black snakes, rat snakes, and pygmy rattlers. So far this year, just a couple of black snakes. Last year had a few of each mentioned above got caught on the electric wire around the chicken pen. Those did not survive. Sometimes, if I see one get on the wire, can usually get them off before it kills them.

I mentioned this to my wife yesterday.

I’ve seen some good size snakes around the place this year even with a dog in the yard.

Nice snakes though. Fat King Snakes to keep the copperheads away.

Had a sizable banded water snake cross the road in front of the truck the other day around the other side of the lake.

Couple of rough earth snakes when mowing.

Nothing else so far this spring.  I also haven't been looking.

We've been called out to remove/relocate a lot more black rat snakes this year and even a few baby copperheads.

Wagging tail = happy right?

Actually he's wound up because he just ate.

We have lots of Black snakes and a few Kinng snakes around the house. As long as they leave the chickens and turkeys alone, they will live long and prosper. The few Coperheads down by the creek have a death sentence on them. It is a popular place for the grandkids to play.

We got those infamous Southern Black Mamba Racers, those deadly things will chase you all the way to Angel Beach and back.     Flatten out and periscope like a cobra, too.

All over Facebook in my area. People losing their shit over water snakes and grass snakes. I haven't seen any yet, but haven't been where the snakes are either.

In the almost 7yrs we've been at our current rural place I've seen 3.

One was a black snake that left me alone so I left it alone.

One was a black snake that continually came after me while I was cutting back brush along a fence line. Ran it off several times and it kept coming back. Shot it with a 22.

Another was a corn snake that I ran across while I was trimming around the house. It was defensive, understandably. Scooped it up in a box and relocated it.

No snakes yet. Plenty of Bull snakes around though.   Falling out of trees is always a rush.
I relocate them so no heart attacks or screaming from the gardener.

I usually run across 6-12 rattlers a year.  I kill most of them b/c they are near the shop, house, yard or pens (like on the porch, next to the squeeze chute, by the tractor/equipment, well pump, etc.).  Not gonna get a free shot at me or the wife, sorry…

So far this year I haven’t seen one yet.  But my hearing is getting bad, and that’s a factor.  Last year I had several close calls where a friend said “I hear a rattler”.  I said “Where?”.  They pointed to my feet…

Usually only see Dekays, and they're so small, you really have to look for them. Haven't seen any live ones this year, just a couple smashed in the street.
