About to pick it up and start playing it tomorrow night with my discord crew.  It launched with dedicated/private server support and the software I use to host/manage game servers already supports it, so I'll be hosting a server.  DM me for a Discord invite.

The box it'll run on is a dual Xeon E5-2690 with ~136gb of ram and SSDs for storage, plugged in to an APC battery backup, and on 1gb synchronous fiber.

An eventual game for me

I enjoyed the demo. It’s just that between crimson desert and Diablo 4, this month and most of the next are tapped out. I do hope it’s more than just what the demo offered so far

Got about 20 hours in at the moment. Lots of things I like, lots I don’t, I have to keep reminding myself that it’s a 0.1 Early Access release and I’m in for the long haul.

I don’t generally like or play Souls-like games, so the land-based combat kicked my ass for a while. Progression has been slow and you don’t get XP from killing mobs or ship combat so it’s a bit of a slog at times.

Both land and ship combat need some adjustments, for sure.

It's also a huge PITA to die while boarding an enemy ship.  You spawn back at whatever recovery point you set, can't fast travel immediately most of the time due to FT being locked due to naval combat, and when you can finally FT it's to whatever is closet to your ship so you can dinghy your way back to it and to restart and finish the boarding.

The worst has been whatever they decided to do for multiplayer networking.  Get more than 3 people on a server and everyone starts getting lag, stuttering, rubberbanding, etc.

This game should have cooked a while longer before release, but it has a ton of potential.

Yeah it's definitely a paid early beta, but I think it's got a hell of a lot of potential. I was an EA backer of a similar game, Enshrouded, and over the last 18 months that has become an incredibly mature and polished game.

Right now my biggest beef is with ship spawning.. I'm level 4 and have my ships guns/shielding fully upgraded, so I can take on two or three Blackbeard ships no problem. But no, apparently Blackbeard had more ships than the damn Spanish Armada because now it's 8 or 9 on one, sucker. WTF

I'm guessing you're doing the quest where you have to take out 3 ships scattered around the map, and each one is in a convoy of about 6-8 ships.  I'm 2/3 on that so far, been tackling it with help from others on my server.

That's the one. I'm 100% solo so I may have to mess with the difficulty sliders if the default is for group play.  They're going to be working on balance all the way through, so I'm not really worried about it, it's just frustrating to be down to your last repair kit and another set of ships teleports in like they've got radios or something

Picked it up last weekend.

Have been enjoying it so far.  Just finished off the first boss.  I am utter crap at games that involve a lot of blocking and dodging so it was nice being able to change the difficulty so me and my trackball can enjoy the game.  Damn hogs still kill me too often!

The building is good.  Not Valheim good but it could get there.  I just do not like that a lot of the building stuff is locked behind rep grinds and Gold Guineas.

The ship combat is ok.  Very arcade-like.  But not too bad.  Once a ship is in boarding status I just ignore them and move to the next live fighter.

The last part of the Revenge mission I ended up aggroing a whole nother group of ships into the fight.  It ended up being 7 v 1.  Luckily the group that got aggroed were only level 2.  The ship armor that allows use of repair kits without losing duration during combat is key for me.

Got to this thread late. My son-in-law bought me a copy around the time you guys were posting here. I've got 92 hours in so far, and I'm a solid level 5, and nowhere near the first boss.

I've downed 2 of the 3 ships that have been messing with the Buccaneers, and I kinda understand what you guys are talking about, and kinda disagree.

To begin with, I suck at flying/sailing games. I don't generally enjoy combat, particularly high end combat. I'm pretty much playing as a 17th century beachcomber. But I listened to my son-in-law, and went in on "high seas" setting. HOLY FUCK!  But I got used to it.

One of my big gripes with the game, in fact, is that the death markers don't go away after you pick up your post mortem cache. They just hang there on the map, taunting me. Dozens of 'em.

I think what's happening to you guys in the instance where you think you're going against 6 or 10 ships is that the patrols out there are really close together, and if you aren't paying attention, your fight will drift into agro range of one or another of them, or more than one. NOW your in for it.

Truthfully, until I got hold of a sample Devastating 24pdr to learn the blueprints for, I was really struggling. Blackbeard ketch with Devastating 24's makes the ship to ship fight trivial. I went from failing to disable the ships 5 times, with 3 of those the result of tunnel-visioning my ass into other patrols, to getting killed multiple times boarding the target ships because I was too dumb to practice boarding actions on the level 2 training ships that constantly haunt the coast of the starter island.

Couple of things. There are mods out that'll allow you to fast travel to your ship. Everybody on the server has to be running matching mods, from what I hear, but I'm seriously considering it. 20 minutes of dinghy diving because I forgot to set a close in respawn before going for the mission is headache inducing. There's also a mod that increases the hold size of your ship. I'm a little concerned that my friggin' ship hold has a lower carrying capacity than my backpack.

And, finally, how is there a game released in 2026, where you can't crouch? The actual fuck?

Click on those death markers on the map, can't remember if its left or right click, but it makes them disappear.

Right click death markers to remove.

I don't even board ships, just blast em.

Same here.  Unless it's a transport ship level 10 or higher.

What weapons are yall using?

I wanted to like the rapier because I like rapiers and it uses precision along with muskets, but I don't like how it handles. I was missing with attacks way too often.

I've been liking the mace and just found a nice blunderbuss that's life changing...

Halberd for me. Slow but can’t beat the range, hitting multiple mobs and damage output. Got the swamp one that heals and you almost have to try to die at that point

That's a nice passive...

I haven't tried a halberd. I tried the two handed sword briefly. I didn't hate it, but that swing is pretty damn slow.
