I had several when I was a kid and you could even get them at Walmart for $1.50 or $2.00.
Anyway, I haven't been in a pet shop in years and I wounder if you can still get these?

Hermit crab food.

They're little pellets. Like fish food.

I had a GF who had one for 15 years. It might still be alive.

Down the shore they still sell them.  We got a couple last year and even though I rarely see them, they are still alive.  I feed them fruit, vegetables, raw meat, and hard boiled egg.

Smart little buggers.

Had one that knew how to pinch the minimal glue that sealed his tank walls to climb to the top and slowly nudge the metal lid off.

Another moved cardboard tubes and rocks until he built a ladder.

Then he his behind a gap behind the kitchen cabinets and I had to place down a water bowl for him so he wouldn't die. However, he knew if I got up when I heard his shell clicking and would run back to safety. Over the course of a month, I had to move the water bowl further and further away from his hole to eventually get enough time to run in and grab him before he scuttled back in.

My boss' assistant just bought a hermit crab enclosure for his office as a surprise for when he returns from his trip to India.
I was thinking of throwing a few bark scorpions in there just to mess with him.

I had one or two as a kid and I remember them crawling around on the pea gravel in their cages at night and making a shitload of noise. Kept me up

No, but I am suddenly curious how they would taste boiled and dipped in melted butter.

Begged my parents for them when I was 12 and we were at Ocean City, MD.

They were alright.  Pain in the butt.

They were till alive the next year. Took them back to the same store the next year.
