At 4:44 am this morning I witnessed something sort of inexplicable. I walked out and directed to my left I see what at first looks like a commercial jet and it’s front white strobes flying at me through my bare trees at maybe 10k ft, maybe less from the size of it. It was flying S/Sw and right when I saw it it made an immediate 90 degree turn and started flying SE. the strange thing is once it got past it only had Red and white strobes on the back and looked to be doing barrel rolls the entire time. Never green marker one to be seen. This was flying in a path nearly directly over the city of Jackson Tenn. and never one fucking sound. It was dead silent outside and my hearing is still good enough to hear most airliners flying over during the day at 50k ft over all the traffic noise and crap happening during the day. This one left me scratching my head. It was probably just a jet with strange lighting like I’ve never seen but I’d like to know for certain. And I didn’t even think about my phone until it was nearly gone.

I have an app a friend whos pretty into Aircraft showed me, its called Flightradar24. If there is an FAA licensed craft in the sky you turn on the app and face the cam at the plane/chopper/etc, and it'll identify, its FAA #, tyoe of craft, speed, some flight plan info like where it took off from and where its headed. I've only spotted comercial passenger flights and a few civilian and or small personal planes with it, No Mill stuff, so not sure what if anything it'd show with those. Maybe type of craft, but not much detail bad guys might be able to use? I dunno... Always wondered what it'd show. To be honest, I forgot about it till your post. |

Well I have zero idea if it was mil or civilian. It sure didn't have approved lighting whatever the hell it was! But flying away one second the wingtip lights would be horizontal and the next appear to be vertical and I don't think what I was seeing was from the tail. Not enough distance between the two for that. Kinda hard to explain without actually seeing it and the zero noise from something not that high up. I have countless planes fly over daily but the direction and everything was just wrong about this one. |

https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ will get you info from planes as long as they're broadcasting which I'm pretty sure is required for all commercial and private aircraft. Sometimes .mil won't or they show up a little wonky. There's also a Linux program called Intercept which will pick up and decode the aircraft info close to you. I have picked up planes up to 70 miles away with an outdoor 2m antenna I built. |

ADSB exchange is better than flightradar as it will show more military aircraft. As long as they have that transponder on. FR24 has few military aircraft, , but other than that it is a pretty good tracker. |

Easiest is adsbexchange.com and go to filters and area, you can see planes 100 miles with a radio receiver no problem if you set up your own adsb RTL-SDR receiver, some to 250 miles if they put their antenna on a HAM hobby 100' tower. Doesn't matter if you only catch one plane a day, as long as your receiver is pinging all the uploads, you get free premium accounts at all the flight tracking places but adsbexchange is open for all and doesn't use accounts like flightradar and others. |
