Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Anyone replaced carpet on stairs that get lots of traffic (including pups)?

Not sure at this point if we're gonna go with new carpet, or covering with a heavy duty laminate. Any thoughts, tips, musings, or warnings from your experience in redoing a carpeted run of stairs?

Just sharing my experience with stairs and my dog.   Finished my basement and spent time staining and finishing the stairs.....only to find out that my dog (lab) that is a complete psycho and will literally run towards anything was TERRIFIED of the finished basement stairs.    Had carpeting installed and no issues since.   Just something to be aware of.

An expensive carpet pad, and cheap carpet is better than cheap pad, expensive carpet.
If I were doing steps over again, I think I would get those bullnose stair tread covers.  
They would be a snap to replace if one gets messed up.
