I, however, just learned that Estwing makes tomahawks.  That's pretty cool.

I've used Estwing hammers for almost 30 years. I bought their leather handled hatchet a few years back and like it.

Issues I see:

1) handle is fugly.

2) unknown steel.  This doesn't matter for casual users, but 'knife people' want to know the steel and estimated hardness.  A blurb about heat treat would be nice as well.

3) janky nylon sheath is a huge no-go.  A budget blade can still come with decent kydex.  Nylon can be done well...  but 'budk special-esque' style sheaths are an immediate deal breaker for me.

But, realitically, these will be sold at Home Depot and Lowes at a budget price.  There will be no shortage of laborers who pick these up and wear them on their belt with pride.

Everyone who is pissing on the knife, it deserves it, should go back to the Estwing website and using the contact tab to send them an email encouraging then to fix that frigging handle design. I did and it took less than 1 minute. As I have learned from listening to Tom Gresham of late, some American companies will actually respond to criticism, emails, and letters. His example was in reference to American firearms makers and some other associated companies,
They need to flush the whole thing
How about encourage them to redesign the handle and maybe update their website and let them know blade steel is important information.

Mystery steel, US sourced or not means it's garbage.

Stick with cold steel for budget blades.

And ditch the chonky Saber grind, decide if it's a clip point, bdrop point or some sort of smatchet, and get rid of the bill board?

Noooo... it's "Solid America Steel"

Not listing the type of steel means they're not marketing to knife guys, they're marketing to construction ninjas who build malls, and like fugly knives.

Their axes aren't comfortable to use either, but at least they are nearly impossible to break.

Let me guess, given your history with lucky scores, you somehow managed to pick it up at a tag sale for $4. So unfair.

Haha Estwing screws up another handle. Love their hammers but I always take a rasp to the handle to give it more grip so it doesn’t slide in the hand when I start to sweat.

My example cost me $10.00 at the flea market in 2016.

I have a Iisakki Jarvenpaa Oy marked one almost exactly like it except the sheath and handle are just a bit different. Nothing on this one but Finland and Estwing.

That's going to be a hard pass. Handle, blade profile, and lack of steel information.

How could the design people at Estwing, the preeminent name in USA made hammers, screw up the introduction of a knife line...?  They just did.

This. I was jazzed until I saw them.

Terrible handle.

Also, tanto-anything sucks.
