if any of you fellas are in the same boat as me......chasing the contract money, or are looking for a job that would use your skills obtained from your military training....check out this site. its a small site..but you wouldnt believe the traffic on it as far as people looking for ex military w/ security clearances, training, etc. ive landed a couple of jobs from this site over the last couple of years. good luck fellas.

I don't know about their websites, but Bradley Morris and the Lucas group are both pretty good companies. They're both great at finding work for ex-military types. I can't believe you fellas have missed the greatest site of all. My first job (General Dynamics) out of the army found me via monster. www.monster.com Seriously, your resume needs to be on there NLT 90 days prior to ETS, especially if you are planning on getting a job with your security clearance. If you think you've done anything that someone would find interesting, it should probably be on your resume. Have someone look over your resume! In fact, have several people look over your resume. There really is no standard format because everyone likes something different. But they might just catch that grammatical error that would've made you look like an ass. A few hints for cleared personnel: Get a copy of your SF86 Know who did your clearance (DoD, USAF, DIA, etc.) Know the date your clearance was approved Know the date your poly was approved |

Not exactly. Lots of people still look at me with the deer-in-the-headlights look when I mention monster.com. They have recently added a new field for government security clearances that employers can enter into their search criteria. While I'm at it, I wanted to plug one more website. www.intelligencecareers.com Don't be fooled by the name, though they primarily recruit for intel jobs. BTT. I wish I would have found this thread back in July when I dropped paperwork. I'm a recently retired vet looking for a job. The problem I'm having is I want to stay local, but am willing to go overseas (ie., Afghanistan or Asia). Thanks for the links. Here's one if your interested in working as a civilian for the Air Force. Anyone need any help with this let me know. Air Force Civilian Employment It's The Air Force Personnel Center, Civilian Employment section. Anyone out there prior Air Force in the aircraft maintenance career fields, I've got some more links. | Question for anyone that may be able to answer. I had a Secret security clearance when I retired. Does anyone know how long that will be good for after retiring? I don't suspect it will be good much longer afterwards, but I've seen a few jobs that are looking for people with a security clearance. I'm guessing that it wouldn't take much for a company to re-open one that was closed recently. |
| Clearances are based on the date and type of investigation that was conducted. Typically there is some central facility(For the Navy, its called DONCAF) that maintains a record of the investigation and when you check in to a new command, they can reference that investigation and grant the appropriate clearance. If it has not been that long ago (the types of investigations expire after given periods) perhaps your old command can tell you the specifics on your last investigation and you can use that information to get a new clearance with an employer. |

Your Military clearence is good for 24 months AFTER you leave the service, not from the last time you held a job that required it. Once you are hired and you have a civilian clearance your military clearance drops dead and the civilian company "owns" your clearance.

Before leaving New Mexico I talked to the guy that was our Squadrons Security Manager...he told me that because of the job I had, my clearance was in the process of being upgraded when I retired. He said since the air force already invested the money and the investigation was already started, it would still go through and get upgraded...regardless of the fact that I have retired. |

| Any one know how a Infantry NCO/sniper instructor could find a private security job in mid east. I am looking for information on pay and requirments but the problem i'm having is Iam not close enof to my ETS date for the companys to talk to me and I'm going to Iraq soon and when i get back i'll only have a mounth or so till I get out so i want to find something befor i go or at least Know i'll qualify. any help would be great Thanks. Hey, fellas. I'm not a vet, but would like to start off my post by collectively thanking y'all for your service. Here are three that [obviously] don't hire vets exclusively, but should be on any vets job-hunting radar: 1) Essentially the "clearinghouse" for all federal jobs (though they're still not at 100% yet): www.usajobs.opm.gov/ 2) Army's civvy hiring wing: cpol.army.mil/index.html 3) Navy's same: chart.donhr.navy.mil/ There are other sites for CIA, NASA, etc, etc, etc - but (always depending on your interests, MOS, and any other skills, of course) these three should offer you the most bang for your buck*. Best, Jake. * i.e. They are all "free," but time is money and it takes at least a nominal amt of time to sign up and/or register at any job site. P.S. Always use both the appropriate schedule and any associated locality adjustments when calculating salary, but you folks already know that! Stands for "Bump To Top." Useful for keeping a thread near the top of the heap, since threads posted or replied to more recently move up to the top spot(s), forcing the rest of the pack down. There is technically no reason to "BTT" an already-tacked thread (as it's *already* at the top of its respective forum), but as 82ndAbn noted in a different thread about a week or so ago, it *does* help keep it alive in the "Active Topics" section.
