... or is it a New York thing that they all close for holiday this week?.. Yom Kippur I believe.. I've been trying to address some gas the last few days and noted Adorama and B&H both list closure... I know B&H is based there, heard their retail location is pretty awesome, I suppose Adorama is too... I've never heard of the holiday discussed here so its kind of unusual.. Interestingly, I was turned onto a great ebay store based in Japan(Map Camera) to address my problem, and after I ordered they emailed me that they would be shipping Wenesday as they're closed Monday and Tuesday "for the Japanese holiday"  |

i know for sure B&H is because it seemed like anytime i wanted to order something they had taken their ordering system offline for some sort of holiday. not sure about the others |

So the Jews are making the cameras and lens or just marketing them in the US? I took a course on photojournalism in college, and spent most of time with a 35mm within arm's reach. There were several retail camera shops around, I mean you could walk in and buy bulk 35mm film on like a 100ft roll and transfer it into film canisters yourself. Now, it's not like there are a bunch of digital camera shops around. That genre just completely disappeared. Just order it off Amazon or Best Buy for the most part unless you want something special. |

I used to buy broadcast tv equipment from BH photo. I'm talking VCRs that were 40k on the low end (and legit weighed 50lbs and had carry handles), video cameras that were 35k, lenses that were 20k. Professional shit isn't cheap. Imagine buying a video camera for 35k and you still have to buy a recorder that mounts on the back, and a lens on the front, and a $600 battery, and a 15k tripod. Some of the professional camcorders complete were just under 100k. Some of the high end stuff at the time was 100k for something like a Betacam SX VCR and 50k for a deck that just plays tapes. HDCAM was insane prices. Back then they didn't charge sales tax if you were out of state. Imagine saving 6% on a 50k purchase. One time an order I placed arrived and it was missing something cheap like a carrying bag. I called them. They acted like I was crazy. They actually recreated the order at the warehouse and packed it in a box just to weigh it, and compared it to the UPS shipping weight from what they actually sent me, and they realized I was right. It was at that moment I realized they might be Jewish. Saw their booth at the NAB conference in Vegas, it was confirmed. |
