Well our "supposedly" 50 ton Felling trailer is still broken, so I said fuck it.  Get the CAT 988 and move the 850 John Deere dozer with it.  I think the dozer is over 50,000 lbs with the wide pads and the ripper attached.   No road rules on an airfield...lol!

Didn’t haul jack squat Monday or today. Rain has everything soaked, so nobody is pouring concrete. All the cement silos are full.

All good. Getting it done around the house. Wife still works.

I’ll hit the range shortly!

First move in a while. Took a yard spotter across town on a funky tri axle trailer designed to haul transit buses. The wife put her foot down on me doing anymore OTR two months ago. There goes all the good money I was making.

But to keep it truck related, the shop put a new seat in my KW while I wasn’t running this week. So that’s cool, and an unexpected surprise.

This damn robot cost me an extra 20 minutes of load time.

The damn thing, stopped, did a 180, moved a few feet, stopped, did a 180, then proceeded at a snails pace to clear the way.

I just spend a week up in Cody, WY moving a prefab/modular temple for the Mormans. The locals aren't happy about where they're building it and have been tying up the project in court. The temple site is in a neighborhood with multi-million dollar houses. We got flipped off daily and filmed by the locals as we were moving loads, the city police harassed us on day one as we were moving the oversized loads through town. Fortunately the WY Highway Patrol showed up and put a stop to it. We had some protestors show up the first day but the weather turned cold and shitty with a snow/rain mix the next two days which put a stop to the fair weather protestors but it turned the off load site into a muddy mess.

No pictures as the situation was sensitive/volatile and the contractor requested that we not take pictures.

Loaded this LR 1600 crane house (126,000 lb) on my Highway Max in Seibert, CO on Friday (240,000 GVW)

I'm now stuck in Haskell, TX, got here Saturday afternoon, the crane that is supposed to offload me is stuck in Colorado and the road going to the wind tower is way too muddy for me to get into even if the off load crane was here. I may be sitting for days, in Haskell, God help me.

Nope, I was averaging around 3 mpg and was running 55/65 mph most of the time (70 on the I40/27). The temps stayed good, the long up uphill pull between Lamar, CO and the OK border and the 90 degree air temps got it pretty warm but never into the red.

Love it. They like to work, don’t they!

In what gear did she find her happy place on that long pull uphill?

7th Direct/OD, I could hold 45/50 mph and about 1600 rpm, kept the fan's speed high enough to keep the oil temp just below the red. It was hot out, in the low 90s with no wind and that pull just goes on for miles and miles with no letup to catch a break and cool the truck back down. That wide nosed radiator was earning its keep.

I think I was only making about 1.4/1.2 mpg on that stretch, they love to work but it's thirsty work.

Really reframes one’s perspective of how 80k isn’t really that heavy for these things. Even if yours IS set up specifically for that kind of work.

I basically run back and forth on the same 82 mile stretch of road each day, almost all of which is 70mph interstate.

Once loaded and I hit 8th OD, that’s where she stays until I get to my exit. There’s a few hills where I could hit 8th direct, but it’s not necessary.

Average mpg with this setup, including the empty miles and fuel used to run the blower for unloading, is 6.8 mpg.

12.7 Detroit 60, 13 speed, 3.55 rears. Usually humming along at 72-73 mph. She’s no big powerhouse, but she’s happy. I won’t trade her. 😁

Edit:

Heaviest I’ve had this rig was 96,200 lbs. You could sure tell it was a little heavier, but it didn’t seem to mind. Probably good for it.

How the truck is built and set up really makes a difference. With my truck 80,000 lbs may as well be bobtailed as far as the truck knows, where your typical OTR truck set up to sip fuel is working pretty good. At 150,000 lbs my truck is starting to work pretty good but still has a bunch of reserve.

I've gone down Eisenhower Pass on I-70 in Colorado at 150,000 lbs in 6th direct @ 35 mph and never had to touch the brakes, the engine brake and the big assed fan are enough to hold it back.

There's trade offs though, I'm lucky to get over 7 mpg bobtailed, I can't go much faster than 70 mph. I was averaging about 3 mpg from Colorado to Texas at 240k. Even with 330 gallons of fuel on board the fuel gauge drops fast.

😂 That’s awesome.
