I like the sequel better. The Penguin sinking beneath the water is one of my favorite movie shots.

Keaton and Burton's Batman were true to the 60's tv show.
But Nolan's reminded me of the original DC Detective comics. Batman was a dark and angry individual back when he first started. |

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: This is where you lost me. The franchise turned into a complete joke until Nolan/Bale came and saved it. You mean the show about a crime fighting billionaire vigilante (who dresses up like a flying mammal) was too much of a joke? West and Keaton were the best and by a wide margin. It is a comic book aimed at teenage boys. It isn’t supposed to take itself too seriously. |

In any super hero movie series, the first one is ALWAYS the best one.
Mr Freeze was gay. The Penguin sucked. Jim Carrey blows, he is Fire Marshal Bill in every role. Poison Ivy? Give me a fuckin' break. |

Nicholson was the Joker. He killed people with jokes. Ledger was just a weird looking psycho.

What I really liked about Keaton was that you would never guess that he was Batman. Tim Burton talked about this a bit, he really wanted two people living one life and he felt like he got that with Keaton. Even Max Shreck is shocked to discover Bruce Wayne is Batman and he probably knew Bruce Wayne for years lol.
Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne was basically everyone ignoring the fact that Bruce Wayne is Batman. You saw Bruce Wayne and thought, "Yea, pretty sure thats Batman". Also, I LMAO'd when watching the first Bale movie and learned that the super secret ninja school deep within the Himalayas is run by a white Irish guy. |

Quoted: It had the best batmobile also. View Quote Concur. I remember reading an article in Hot Rod magazine, probably about the same time as the ‘89 movie. IIRC original Batmobile was built on a ‘66 Caprice chassis. It was so damn heavy and unstable, it had a max speed of 30mph. They obviously did their Hollywood thing to make it look faster, but still. |

Nolan Bales ones are way too serious, which makes them stupid. In the real world everyone would be shot. |

Born in the mid 80s. i dont know if ive ever seen the Keaton movies all the way through. Never was into comics and always thought what bit I've seen was super corny. Didn't care about seeing the Bale's batman until people were talking about it and i finally watched it on DVD. I enjoyed it enough to see the second one in theaters and loved ledgers performance and the darkness of it. Probably because it was my first real introduction to the batman character but when i think of batman i think of the Nolan trilogy.
gonna have to watch the keaton version to give it a chance |

I thought the way Tim Burton did Batman and Batman Returns really brought out how I would have imagined bringing the comics to life would be. It seemed to blend all the elements.
The Nolan trilogy I also like but it's dark and more real. I could watch that without tying it much to the actual comics. Kind of like the comic hero is a real life entity but not bringing the comic into real life like the Keaton batmans. I hope that made sense lol. |

Quoted: Nicholson was the Joker. He killed people with jokes. Ledger was just a weird looking psycho. View Quote Ledger's Joker was out to prove that society is thinly held together. And depending on class and status, how expendable and reactionary society is. In the end he failed with the harbor scene and the two boats. But succeeded into turning Dent to hating the system that he once believed in. |

Saw it on my 18th birthday. Will always be my favorite Batman movie. Just did everything right.

Val Kilmer in Batman Forever was the best Batman in the best Batman movie.

Quoted: Tim Burton made the movies a joke. Keaton did great and cat woman was super sexy in an S&M way. The Bale-Ledger version wasn't campy and cartoonish like the Burton versions. They took themselves seriously and brought in a ton of great actors. Quoted: Ledgers performance was and is iconic. I've always felt it's a unfair comparison because it's too different Jokers. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Never watched the old Batman shows and I never got into comic books besides Conan. Jack is obviously a better actor than Heath. Maybe his Joker was closer to what the creater of that character envisioned, I have no idea. All I'm saying is there's a pretty good reason why the vast majority of people have crowned that Batman as the king of all super hero movies. Ledger's Joker was on another level. I've always felt it's a unfair comparison because it's too different Jokers. The - "PG" version Vs. the "R" rated Jokers. One was fine & funny for the kids to laugh at & with! Heath was definitely NOT for the kiddies! |

I thought it was mediocre, at best, when I saw it in 1989.
After the job Christian Bale did in all three of his Batman movies, the 1989 movie seems seems silly at best now, if not outright stupid. |
|
After seeing it in the theater, I thought it was clown shoes.
It excelled at being an iconic 80s Batman portrayal, I admit that. |
