We have an X3 M40i, and I have driven a Macan S for 3 days (friend's SUV).

I choose Macan GTS, but I gotta tell you, that X3 M40i has got a fantastic engine, superb exhaust sound, great brakes, tons of electronic goodies, and great handling.  But... money no object, the Macan GTS is just slightly better in some areas.  I still think the BMW is faster, though.  No experience with the Merc.

My brother just bought a Macan GTS. He agrees with you. I did ask him if he could drift it in the recent snow he got, but said he couldn't. Maybe he needs to run it harder.
