I'm always amazed at how durable it is. It's always struck me as a very weak/brittle material but it's surprisingly strong.

What's the make, model, and country of origin of the bottom rifle? How's the quality compared to other trashcan rifles? What's the current market price? Thank you.

Isn't bakelite made of resin impregnated sawdust?

Early Fender Stratocasters used bakelite knobs and pickup covers. Now that's a valuable vintage bakelite item. Here's a "54 (not mine - I wish):

In a former life, I made molds out of bakelite for vulcanized rubber printing plates

How is Bakelite pronounced?

I watched a documentary on the stuff back in the 80s, it was one of those black and white films where the narrator had an old school radio announcer voice and the guy pronounced it "bake-uh-lite". That didn't sound right to me.

I've heard it pronounced with two and three syllables. Most of the 3 syllables were by people who really knew their shit.

I work with phenolic damn near every day. It seems amazing some days. Most days it just pays the bills.
Not those moulded things though, just sheets. Bakelite is some pretty cool stuff. I can't see molds being particularly cheap. Better aim to make a million of anything.

As a collector of old radios, in our house, the smooth, luxurious feel of real bakelite is never more than arms length away.

I approve.
