Something like that happened at a bank where I was working, back in 1985. A teller in the Wire Transfer Department mistakenly put about $750K into a low-balance checking account that belonged to a poor couple who lived in a trailer park.
The couple went straight to the press after the bank's security director, whose nickname was Moose, banged on their door and demanded that they return the money. Their story was that they had given a bunch of it to a missionary in Africa, after paying off their kids' debts (a house and a couple of cars IIRC.) Bank ended up recovering most of it but had to write off about 1/3 of the money. |

I had a bank accidentally issue a Debit card to someone and they tied it to my checking account which had 11K in it at the time as I was about to pay off a contractor for some work.
The low lifes drained $500 a day out of it until it was down to 2K. The bank had video of them going through the bank drive through ATM and they also went to a casino in Connecticut for a couple days. The bank at first said I didn't protect my number so someone else got it and I may face a penalty for that but when they got the video of the drive through, I just ended up having to go to the local police and file a police report (I'm guessing so they could press charges), then they sent me a letter briefly stating they refunded all my money and call if I have any questions. |

With even SPAXX offering 4.98% and credit cards offering 2% cash back on everything and 5% on some things any money at all kept in a checking account is a lot these days. Look at how honest and good the leaders are such as Lois Lerner at the IRS, or the FBI masterminds of Fast & Furious! Surely if it's OK to send piles of cash and machine guns to Mexican cartels, it's totally fine spend a little extra cash that was gifted to you by an electronic transaction. Obummer sent pallets of money, that was confiscated right out of our paychecks, to the wonderful dictators of Iran, who clearly are good, rational, and decent human beings... |
