I finally have a chance to give growing out a beard a real chance. I've had a short beard for a few years now but I've had to keep it trimmed close for work. I use Crafted Beard beard oils, wash, conditioner and balm and have taken up derma rolling. Any other advice?

I started my first beard a few years ago.  I was working from home and decided to do "No Shave November".  I decided to keep the beard after.  I have shaved it off a couple of times and tried goatees, but keep coming back to a beard.

I have tried balms, oils, conditioners, "butters", etc., but my beard hair is just rough and does what it wants to do.  Because of this, I tend to keep it short.

While the hair on my head is brown, by beard and mustache are both gray.  I thought maybe the gray hair is just prone to not cooperating and forgot about it.

I recently started working out to lose some weight and get back in shape (working from home + covid = gained 20 lbs).  Since I've been working out, I have been drinking a lot more water.  I used to never drink water unless you count the water in coffee, tea, diet soda, etc.

Since I've been drinking a lot more water, I noticed my beard has gotten softer and more manageable.  I tried a test and went through some periods drinking less water and some periods drinking more water.  In my unscientific experimentation, I found (at least for me) staying hydrated did more for my beard than any store bought beard products did.
