I was thinking I should do a 5k on Sunday. I've never run any sort of race before. I need to bring my phone and car keys anyway. I'd like to bring along either a Shield Plus or a 642. I see these running belts and fanny packs, but I've never liked having much weight that low when running. I can see it getting pretty floppy adding the pistol weight in. Are chest packs like HPG the way to go? Belly band? |
| If I carry I throw it in my camelback. I have never needed a reason to carry on a run, but I mostly run local roads. |

If you can shoot an assailant during a 5k/10k, you’re not running hard enough. If your assailant can catch you, you’re not running hard enough. The object of a 5k/10k is to feel like you’re going to die at the end. You’ll survive 20-30 mins being unarmed. |

I figure Im already running so I'll be harder to hit. That and I pretty much choose to not run 5/10k's in Compton or downtown Detroit. But I wanted to post before someone from Miami details the use of carrying twin 10mm's to combat grizzly bears during his 5k runs. |
Dont call it a comeback, Been here for years.

Just put a knife on your keychain problem solved. Tops Scandi folder Cheap but good |

You'll probably make it through it without carrying. I wouldn't take anything with me, carrying stuff sucks while trying to run. Phone, wallet and gun locked in the car, then I have a hiding spot under my truck I can stash my key. |

How do you guys go swimming? or to the beach? or play sports? I guess I might know the answer to those questions for most of GD ![]() To be fair, I took a loaded hard-chromed KelTec PF9 into a hot tub with me in a swimming suit pocket one time just for kicks when I was just getting into carrying a long time ago. There wasn't any negative impact when I shot it later without having cleaned it or changed the ammo. I've been out here in Africa for years without a gun. I've needed one just as often as I did back in the US. Which is zero times. |

It's not a big deal. I can leave it in the car. I don't run aside from the treadmill so I was just looking up how runners carry their stuff. I'm used to the tray and cup holders. I know my phone won't fit into the pockets of my shorts. The HPG chest packs came up along with the little belts so I figured some people carry while running. |
|
There is no good way to carry a gun if you’re actually running. They all suck, including the HPG chest bag. So far, every person I’ve gotten into this discussion with that recommended one doesn’t actually run with it. Some walk or hike with them, or have maybe jogged a mile with one. I bought one a few years ago based on all of the recommendations and found that no, it actually sucks as bad as every other option. Personally, I just don’t worry about it. There are situations in life where/when I can’t carry a gun, and running is one of them. It’s fine. |

I had zero problems running 3 marathons with a keltec PF9 in an open topped horsehide holster with belt clip, clipped to my running shorts, and an elastic ID/phone holder belt (nathan makes them). I had a camelback with reload, water, snacks, and spare layer. final one was like 4:45 but i also weighed 225lbs, and ran it self supported(all my own water, snacks, layer , knife(kershaw onion) and gun). ETA people have been killed and partial eaten by bears in city limits there (Anchorage Alaska), and part of it was within 100 feet of a homeless encampment, so yeah i carried. |

I didn't end up running last Sunday. My mom took the kid for the weekend and gave us a free morning on Sunday so my wife requested that I stay home. It's probably better anyway because I was hurting Sunday morning. I did 3 miles on Saturday and it beat my right side up pretty good. It's getting better so I'm going on the 24th instead. I ordered one of those slim running belts that's just big enough to hold my phone and keys. |
|
Fanny pack style man-bag that you sling over 1 shoulder would likely be the cheapest/most natural looking option. Assuming you're carrying a lightweight gun (Bodyguard .380, LPC, Keltec .380 or .32) Airweight J frame. Etc. And you wear compression shorts under your running shorts. You can likely carry any of those IWB without needing a belt. |
|
For future reference. Belly band with a compact 380 like a bodyguard 2.0 is the least annoying in my opinion. I’ve lived some crap places and due to work schedules it’s normal for me to be out running at night. I use a HPG runners kit a lot, but mostly for hiking. I take it sometimes running if I will be bringing my phone/inreach and keys with me for more remote runs. It carries pretty well but can get to bouncing a bit too much when running. A shield plus with optic fits nicely and is easy to carry with a kydex trigger guard cover. |
