LSD must have been popular in Hollywood.

I recently watched H.R. Puff-n-Stuff with Danger Island and the Banana Splits on one of those nostalgia channels. OMG they were on acid when they wrote all that stuff. They were puffin' stuff alright.

Even as a child when I watched that stuff, I knew there was something weird going on.

Since it was not mentioned on page 1, Greystoke was pretty well done for 1984 and his supporting role was one of the first acting jobs I recognized as being exceptional when I was a kid.

The Hobbit movies were awful.

Good actor- didn’t realize he was that old, but shouldn’t be surprised since I remember him in movies when I was a kid.

So no ten season Silmarillion.    (I can't recall if Bilbo was in any of the stories.)

Sid and Marty Krofft deny the connection, but I’ve always believed they partook of the shrooms with the shows they made

Same here .

I have always thought the lack of immediate recogntion of an actor from role to role was the mark of a good actor

Bryan Cranston , Gary Sinise , and Gary Oldman are all good examples of this

RIP

But I really didn't think he was the one to play Bilbo, he just didn't feel right to me.

I didn't like the casting of Frodo either

Come to think of it, I didn't like any of the casting choices, except for maybe Gandalf

Peter Jackson sucks

I can agree with Gary Oldman aka The Chameleon, but not the others. Always been a fan of Ian Holm's, so recognizing him isn't too hard. RIP Mr. Holm.

As for Bryan Cranston and Gary Sinise, their looks and voices are too distinctive, and they don't have anywhere near Gary Oldman's range to morph into a different character.

They're not much better than Sean Connery and Gerard Butler in that regard, i.e. decent actors, but they generally play Sean Connery/Gerard Butler as XXXXXX in whatever movie they're in.

Other actors that remind me of Ian Holm, in range, are Anthony Hopkins and Bob Hoskins. All 3 have believably pulled off menacing as well as mild-mannered.
