I picked up an ak103 clone from a store made by KUSA for which the model number is kr-103, however this was sold as a blem as the receiver is engraved KP-104 instead of KR-103. I guess they used the receiver meant for their ak104 pistol for this rifle and sold it as a blem. What I'm not sure about is the firearm was transferred to me by the FFL as a KR-103 and since the mismatch could there be any kind of legal issues having something marked differently that what I had transferred to me? Could I legally xxxxx out the current model number and have it engraved with KR-103, or even AK-103 or something elsewhere on the receiver or should I leave it as is? My questions comes from the current legality of how it is marked now and a bit from an ocd aesthetics perspective of having it say something it's not, I've heard of people remarking mr556 lowers to say hk416 for example for clone correctness and visuals. Also If I ever sbr it I assume I would need to use whatever is on the lower. Whats the most logical choice here from a legal perspective? Leave as is? Remark to "correct" model? Or does it not matter at all since original serial and manufacturer info are intact and correct and I should be able to do what I want with the model number portion? |

If the dealer recorded a different model name, he violated federal law. Yes. § 478.34 Removed, obliterated, or altered serial number. No person shall knowingly transport, ship, or receive in interstate or foreign commerce any firearm which has had the importer's or manufacturer's serial number removed, obliterated, or altered, or possess or receive any firearm which has had the importer's or manufacturer's serial number removed, obliterated, or altered and has, at any time, been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce. No such prohibition on the other required markings. Its legally marked now. No law prohibits Colt from marking "AK47" on the magwells of their AR15's. Also If I ever sbr it I assume I would need to use whatever is on the lower. Correct. If its marked "KP-104".....its a KP-104. Thats how the manufacturer recorded it. |

| gotcha, thank you. I called the FFL after this question came up in my head and they told me they had it transferred to me as a KR-103. I guess I don't care if they broke any laws with how they sold it to me as long as I'm in the clear with the current form and possession. I think I'll just leave it alone and try to fight my ocd and itch for modifying |
