I’m ready
|
|
I have multiple stands 30+ ft up, cameras everywhere, PTO on standby for the November rut, land owner tag in hand, and much more.
This is the first year my brother and I are skipping the September OTC Elk season in CO and sticking to home base whitetail archery only. To say we're excited is an understatement. BUT this weather needs to cool off substantially before October. |

It's been dry, acorns look like shit, I rusty, and the kids have too many activities. I'll prob only get out once or twice during bow season but I am as ready as I can be.

Quoted: That’s the damn truth. I love Alabama, but damn the humidity. View Quote Last year was so hot and dry most bucks had broken tines from the lack of precipitation. We (neighbor properties included) passed on some absolute shooters because their antlers were so broken up from pre rut. |

Have another dry spell going on right now. Clover looks like crap. But the two biggest bucks from last year have both shown up on camera in the last couple weeks. Probably should pull the ol crossbow out and make sure it’s still dialed in. I’m probably going to pick up a compound pretty soon so I can go out west at some point.

|
Best time to be out there too. I just got home, took a load up to base camp. Stashed in the trees, we move in 9/4.
Attached File Calling in a bull elk and trying to arrow him is pretty intense. I keep trying. Used to drop them with a rifle easy. If archery elk was easy, women and children would do it. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

I’ve spent a lot of money this year getting ready. Really hope I get one at my new spot.

Some excellent photos. Some of you are winning at life.
Keep it comin fellas |

Tennessee archery season doesn’t open in the unit I hunt until Sept 24. It’s always the last Saturday in Sept.

Put that on the cot and sleep deep. Sadly it just takes up too much real estate on the pack in via SxS. Need a roof rack on that thing. Till then I’m using a decent inflatable and have a quilt on that. I just picked up the trailer, and that thing can haul some gear. Bounces like crazy empty tho. Only weighs 120, hauls 1k lbs. Murdock’s had them for 700 bucks, made in MN or WI. Otter something, biggest one they make. Attached File 6 40 lb bags of giant wood pellets for the stove. Sawing up firewood takes too much time away from hunting. It’ll be needed soon. Got down to 40 last night at 10k’. Attached File A warm tent does wonders for morale when you’ve been grinding. great place to dry out wet gear and just kick back when the weather goes to shit. Attached File Attached File |

My daughter just got a bow, she seems to enjoy it |

Still have to make it to the range, but my bow and equipment are ready.
|
|
Nah, grouse and duck season is almost here.
Should be fun hearing the bow hunters whine about having to share the woods though. They lost my respect in NY (as a group) when they lobbied to have youth hunt weekend removed because it was in the middle of their precious season. |

Starting to get a few decent ones on camera. Weather starting to get nice here in MO. Can't wait. |

Been practicing since July and 3 days ago noticed a frayed spot on my string near my lower cam. So I had to replace the string and cables with less than 2 weeks until the opener. I’ve been tuning and practicing like mad for the last couple of days.

For the first time in decades I am going out with a bow this year. I am really looking forward to it.
|
|
It opens Saturday here. I have 3 on my radar. Hoping to add to my velvet collection.

|
Picked up a Mathews phase 4 this year with all the bells and whistles, havent bow hunted since 2006. Looking forward to getting back out. I've been shooting it all summer, it shoots great

I used to love bow season. That is UNTIL I bought some land. Now I spend all season running off trespassers and poachers. I routinely find people on my property, in a stand. The story is the same: "I got permission from the land owner." (which obviously they didn't) or "This isn't so and so's property?" I guess that's what happens when you live within a half mile of where this was killed. I've had my stands stolen off of my trees and tons of other issues even though there are no tresspassing signs and purple paint everywhere.

Opener in LBL is this weekend but I’m gonna skip it this year. I’ll get a few sits in before state opener to get the cob webs off.
With that said I’m the middle of a Jon Boat build to access some spots only accessible by boat so I’m pumped for that. Let’s go! |
|
use to love it. have a mathews v3x 29 that i bought and put a dozen arrows through it and havent touched it since.
combination of all the bs to set up stands, clothes etc, plus work and kids. ive killed lots of deer, just cant seem to care anymore |

I’ve had a bear snooping around as I’ve seen it in the fields but nothing on my trail cameras

Its Dove Season Saturday. I have to dig out my shotgun and drive a whole half a mile.
|
|
I'm not. I took my bow in for a new string almost two weeks ago. Apparently the normal couple days turn around is now strings are backordered and "never take this long".
|
|
to dang hot here.
I got my food plots planted about a month ago and the deer are already in them. But its going to be in the low 90's this weekend so im not going out. The deer dont really move much here right now with the lack of rain and hot temps. In another 3-4 weeks things should change though. |
|
Dove opens tomorrow, teal on the 9th, bow and muzzleloader deer season on the 11th, prairie chicken on the 15th.
Hunting season is upon us, friends. My body is ready! |

View Quote I had friends question why I went with an Excalibur x-bow. It's not as fast. Doesn't look as cool. Blah, blah, blah.... But I can change my own string or adjust brace height in about two minutes at home and it's a tack driver. |

I’m still seeing very small fawns with spots, and tiny turkeys following mommy around. Was everything late this year?
