Found him on the side of my house. One of the fattest spiders I’ve seen. Abdomen about the size of a quarter.

We call em fall spiders or harvest spiders.

Orb weaver.

Make their presence known this time of year. Usually get a few mammoth ones out front.

Gnarly looking and fast.

They suck giant balls walking to the deer stand.

Yup, Orb Weaver. Around me we call them River Spiders because they like to hangout on the bridges and trees and other places right by the river.

Just dispatched two over the last few days for building huge webs leading onto our porch and grill area.

Definitely your standard, garden variety orb weaver. They are awesome, total workhorses, devour all kinds of pesky shit and make nifty free Halloween decor on your house

In Washington State we call them brown hangers ( erroneous parabellum). In North Dakota I believe you call them fuzzy tick mothers.

This time of year they try to get into warmer areas in order to release up to 500 babies they carry on their underside.

Do not touch them as the babies tend to navigate towards anything that smells like fecal matter and will enter the anus of most mamals without the host even realizing them before it's too late.

Grass hopper gobbler. We had one spend the summer at the faucet in the yard, web spinning and hopper gobbling. About doubled his size over the summer but dropped off last week when it snowed.

As a general rule, if you don't know what kind of spider you are looking at its safe to assume it's a Brown Recluse.

Killed about 3 of them today. I was spraying for ants around the house and those guys were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Wonder if that is how spider webs became part of Halloween decor in the first place?

We call it "orange fuzzy spider season" around here, get tons of them this time of year.

Are they bitey? I don't mind interacting with spiders as long as they aren't aggressive. We get tons of spider bros (jumping spiders) around here and they can be pretty entertaining.

Yep. Cool spiders, although one of those little fuckers jumped off a downspout and bit me a couple of years ago - still have the fang marks. Good thing their venom doesn't affect humans.

Harmless to you, this isn't Australia. If you do get bit, you could suffer from an itchy bump. Letting them be is the best plan as they do some damage to Insect populations.

I live in Black Widow central, they are ubiquitous outdoors, but rarely come in. It would disappoint Arfcom to know that they are also not aggressive and are quite hesitant to leave their webs. Widow webs are strong, but messy, compact and disorganized, and are usually built out of the way at the border of something or in a crevice where it's moist. They are easy to avoid. I regularly get spider bites but have never gotten hit by a Widow.

Most historic Widow bites were from men taking dumps in outhouses where their junk would fall into an unnoticed web under the "rim". Not exactly a hard target.

I run into those all the time on trail. Had one tangled in my hair one time. The biggest threat is accidentally smashing it, otherwise they're tame.
