I just got a warning for losing my shit over this. I fully deserved it. I was out of line and I know it. I’m not posting this to make excuses for myself. It was my second warning in almost 20 years of posting on here.

But I also know I’m not the only person bothered by it. I come here to read stuff, not watch stuff. Nothing irks me more than clicking on an interesting subject only to realize it’s a link to a 20 min video and that’s it. No summary of content, nothing indicating if it’s really worth 20 minutes of my time.

As one mod stated me have become nothing more than the comments section for other people’s content. That’s sad. We shouldn’t be. We’re a text site, not a video site. If you want to share videos, that’s fine, but doing so without at least a short summary explaining the video content should be against the CoC.

That’s my opinion, and I know I’m not the only member that shares it. I would like to see if the body of the membership shares my opinion. If not, I’ll keep my mouth shut on the subject from here on out.

I agree that it is annoying.  There is nothing worse than a juicy thread title and find a "Reaction" youtube video with no summary.
I don't think that a new post checklist of requirements would be beneficial.  How would they structure the rules?   I just hit the back button, three seconds of whatever life I have left on this earth are gone. That's the way it is.

Agreed. Videos without relevant comments in the OP need to be locked or the member posting it needs to be messaged by mods and told to fix it.

There should definitely be a rule about it.

Even just making people put (video) in the thread title, or somehow do that automatically when a video is linked in the OP would be really nice.

The big reason I lost it on the thread OP last night was the fact I fully expected it NOT to be a video thread based off the thread title, and I think any reasonable person would’ve expected the same. When instead it was an another long video without even a sentence long description, I let my temper get the best of me.

If I go into a thread knowing ahead of time that’s what I’m clicking on, I really can’t get mad about it. I generally just don’t click on threads that I know are just links to YouTube videos.

ETA Again not excusing my behavior, I was 100% out of line and what I posted was completely on me and me alone. It was just the straw that broke the camels back. “Spam” posting of YouTube videos has just gotten really bad as of late in GD.

It would be pretty easy to post a notification pop-up when someone posts an OP with only a video.  Require, or at least remind, them to post a summary if there are less than 10 words in the OP when a video is posted.
