I always wanted a GT PFT, I got into RC cars and then shortly after real cars and it was all over.

Scared to even look what I might find a good one for today, of course my health insurance might make me more aware I am not young anymore either.....

ETA...just for giggles went and looked.....

I would buy one if they come back in stock....I would like to find some black mags for it though.  Any word if these are built as good as the "OG" ones?

Thanks for those posts.

Wonder if there is an outlet for old bmx/freestyle parts? I’d like to get a the gt epoch stem and some dia comps for my performer, stickers are faded too.

This thread has made me start riding it…yea I’m a geek. Got a little mx track and was telling the wife i think i want a half pipe over there too…she just stared at me, but she knows its probably coming.

Please don't refinish, keep as a survivor, like an old firearm.

I painted my JMC in the 90's, I wish I had not now. I recently had it powdered back to candy apple .

You can't compare a Freestyle bike to a race bike. Freestyle is built for beef and (my bike had pegs!) vs. a race bike goal of low mass.

Sorry to all of you who had their bikes stolen! I feel lucky for all of the times my bike sat outside of the house or store front and was still there when I came back. The little parts dissapeared off of the bike however when I was out of state, little brother has no idea...

Still have it hanging in my dad's barn,  pretty rusty in spots last time I looked.
My 7year old son was asking me about what tablet games and stuff I played as a kid.  I laughed and said they didn't exist back then.
He said "in the olden days?"
Little shit.
When he asked what we did for fun I said go outside in the morning and ride bikes til dark.  We were pretty poor and didn't have much after dad got laid off from the steel mill in the early 80s.  But they saved somehow,  and "Santa" gave me the best present a kid in the early 80s could wish for.
Might have to drag it down and see if I can fix it up for the boy.

I forgot about the Schwinn Predator Atari bike!!!  Earlier than the 86 cro-mo freeforms

Probably some of the rarest parts out there.

This thread brings back some memories. I re-built a chrome Dyno later in life when my son was young so I could ride with him. When he got older I gave it to a kid that didn’t have a bike and parents couldn’t afford one. He was proud but I don’t think it had the same impact on him as it would have our generation at that age. It would have been like someone throwing you the keys to a top notch sports car.

I always wanted a Maui blue and white GT performer. Another member here regularly shows me some for sale in a Facebook group he’s in but I can’t make myself pull the trigger.

Blue Dyno VFR. Bought it for 3 bucks off of an older kids back porch. He had taken it apart and it sat there forever. He had graduated to skate boards. Our local bike shop had all of his snapped in half decks hanging from the ceiling. Literally covered the entire shop. I rode the wheels off that fucking thing. There wasn't a curb or ramp that didn't get jumped or a bench that didn't get a rail slide in my hometown.

I had a BMX Redline that was given to me by my brother. It was a beautiful bike and my first love.

Then I mowed lawns and used the money to buy a brand new Schwinn Predator. That bike was my pride and joy.

Just like this one:

My old PK Ripper is a total time machine for me to see again in my garage.

Thanks dad!  Have no idea what he had to give to get it back!  A friend had gotten hold of it and wanted ransom money.  I guess he eventually got it.

My favorite was my (used) 1989 Mongoose Californian Pro. I upgraded to ACS Boa brakes, Uni seat, beartraps, etc.

Sold it to buy a rear end for my first car (1965 T-bird).

Now I'm old and have money, so a few years ago a built a 22" S&M ATF with all of the components I couldn't afford as a kid. I ride it once a week just to remember how much I loved the freedom of my BMX days.

@gutter1000

When you restore your bikes, are you keeping as much OEM as possible or upgrading?

I find the old barn stripped frame, fork, and handlebars.  Usually the head set bolt and washers are with it.  The company i work for powder coats, so i buy my powder from powder by the pound, about 4lbs is more than enough.

I use the haro old school transmission:

I like the dia-comps brakes, tech 77 brake levers, and get my rims and hubs built up from flatlandfuel.com

I had a pink Pro Freestyle Tour as well, but not the team model so I had the 1 piece crank. Couldn't afford the team model. It came with white mag wheels, which I later replaced with Peregrine HP 48s.

I had a 94 gt performer chrome with the black and neon green graphics. GT mag wheels and gt tires. Also had the gyro like a boss.

Next year I also got an interceptor. They were still in my moms garage about 5 years ago then I found out my brother sold them

My younger brother was a nationally ranked BMX racer in the late '70s - '80s who rode for several factory teams over his racing career. We spent every weekend at a race mostly in the southwest and west coast. He usually had about 2-3 bikes used just for racing and another 5-10 for practice and stunt riding. The factories that sponsored him would send him bikes and various parts to test. He had a few that he sold on eBay a few years ago that went for crazy amounts of money.

I had XTRASKN neoprene shin pads with the plastic guards that slid into them to protect your shins.  They didn't do much good if the pedals slid up until they bit flesh above the pads.

I have dents and scars all over my shins and knees thanks to my JP square cage pedals.

Got to be blunt, I've been chasing the feeling this Mongoose brought me since:

Photo has to be 1980 and to hazard a guess, must of been the first couple of weeks with the bike.

I can tell, no mods, stock neck, stock bars, still coaster brakes and crank... Still there has been nothing, literally nothing that has competed with the feeling the day I rode out of the Bike Shop with it.

I've had God knows how many hot cars, motorcycles, boats, even an 180 Piper Cherokee and I've never felt that utter exhilaration and freedom that "BMX" brought me back in its heyday.

We had a little track in our town, first time I was able to really defy gravity and experience speed was on that Mongoose. Prior it was Huffy 3-Speed "Evil Kenevil" looking beasts and MX looking "shock bikes" (Jesus they were heavy pigs). I mean I even had a Suzuki 90 van-van at the same time and they came close but there was something incredible about that period of BMX time.

SuperGoose's entered the scene, one of our circle ended up riding factory for Red Line and then Thruster... he was like a god to us.

Every couple of weeks when saved enough money, scrounge for a new mod, something to shave a few ounces, give you an edge..

I think it was just a magical time that can never be repeated.

Is there like a company that restores bikes for customers (reliable company that is)?  I haven't looked but maybe someone here has.

If I could get my Mongoose Pro Class back in decent condition it would be cool.
