My wife bought a cheap chicom smoker at Sams a couple years ago.  Wasn't great but worked well enough.

I tried to do a burn to clean the inside but only the bowl cleaned up.  The top is still dirty.  Never could get it past 650 degrees.  I used regular briquettes for the fire.  Tried a technique from youtube but it can't be much different than running a very hot fire to burn everything off.

I was thinking of using a propane torch with flame spreader but I don't want get it too hot, bad idea?

Have you thought about oven cleaner and a pressure washer.  Works for mine!

Seems I heard not to use chemicals because it absorbs into the ceramic thats why lighter fluids not recommended but I could be wrong.  I do have a pressure washer, maybe a citrus based degreaser.  Maybe I'll try another burn but use lump charcoal instead.

I know what you’re talking about.  That is a pain to clean.  I’ve just been hitting it cold, with a grill brush, when I clean ash out.

Mine is going on a dozen years old.  Sams vision Kamado.

I use a citrus cleaner that seems to work pretty good for all but the most stuck on stuff. I'll probably pressure wash it this week.

You need more heat?  Clean out ash, load of with lump charcoal and use a leaf blower to reach your desired temperature

I think any smoker holds crud on the lid, no way I’m using anything other than a brush.  Pressure wash possibly, but unlikely.
All the greasy crap would get tracked in by me or the dogs.

These things were a bargain for sure.  Wanted an egg, couldn’t find a used one and Sams had these on fall clearance cheap.

I simply brush (wire) it into the bowl then clean the ashes out.

Just use a brush to knock off the big stuff on the lid.  Wipe off most of the grease and get it down the drain.  Get it hot and use a wet washcloth and tongs to hit the grate.  You will be good to go.  Recteq says that's all you need to do.  They don't even want you to remove any ash or the like that is in the bottom... they say it insulates.

On my Traeger, I use a scraper to clean up grease and scale, and also a nylon brush on the grates, then use a shop vac to remove the ash.  Trying to get the inside any cleaner than that is a fool's errand.  There's simply no need.  I do use a citrus based cleaner to clean up the outside, especially the handle and stainless steel trays.

You don't want to use briquettes.
Lump charcoal is what you want. It burns hotter.
I prefer Rockwood. Need to get it up to or over 700 for at least 30-60min.
Leaf blower will get it up there quickly.
