Hell, in my area of Abalama, they use police escorts for busses of high school jocks. Another waste of tax payer money.

When I was real little the governor of LA used to go to all the LSU home games, he got a state police escort for a short distance from the capitol or mansion to the game down interstate, he would go to the games with the LSU flag flying from the car. That was many decades ago. Charlie Mac was still coach. Pretty sure he didn't fight the mass traffic coming or going.

Quoted: Bodyguards? View Quote Yup. I will admit that some of my fellow Southern folk take a fucking game a bit too seriously. Hell, one rabid Alabama fan murdered some historic oak trees down in Auburn a while back. He was so vindictive he slow poisoned them. Even most Bama fans were openly "WTF?" I used to work with one hardcore Bama fan. I asked if a rumor was true about him smashing his TVs after Bama lost a game. He said: "No, but i have killed a couple of radios in the past." |

People get insane over sports games. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Quoted: I've always wondered about that. Why would the visiting team's State Police even have jurisdiction and law enforcement powers in a different state? View Quote That thought never occured to me. Interesting. I guess blanket carry applies to out of state cops and the state will pay them for travel events. |

They are occasionally needed when butt hurt sports all fanatics try to take out their frustration on a coach.

Or Ohio State? https://moneymint.com/highest-paid-public-employees-by-state/ View Quote Tv contracts, ticket sales, donations. They’re state employees in name only. Athletic department plays for all security as well. Athletic departments use the name of the university and little else. Essentially an independent corporation. |

Quoted: I've always wondered about that. Why would the visiting team's State Police even have jurisdiction and law enforcement powers in a different state? View Quote All that is worked out before the game, during pre-season. Each state grants the other a waiver (of sorts) to do so. In the SEC, it's been done for decades. |

Quoted: The Tiger Athletic Foundation pays the overwhelming majority of the salary of the LSU head coach, and pays for the expansions of the stadium and thus owns the rights to the seats. Every year the athletic department (at least pre covid) made a donation to the general scholarship fund from the money they made, and yes they show a profit. Moving a large chunk of the salary and building/stadium upgrades to a prive organization cuts through a shitload of red tape. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: What? Tickets sales, season ticket holders, tv contracts , etc. and don’t think you’re gonna just call, say UGA athletics, and buy season tickets for one year. You have to make a sizable donation to athletic committee and then buy your tickets. After every other season tix holder has made their donation, and bought their tix. You are at the end of a very long line. With other people that wanna buy season tickets. |

Quoted: They are always looking for uniformed cops to work those details. If you are off, want the work and your admin approves. And that goes for more than football. I've worked private security and traffic control in other cities because they couldn't get their own cops to work. View Quote I wasn’t really hungry enough to do traffic at sporting events-Falcons, Hawks, Ga Tech., etc. i don’t know what they paid, I worked mostly movie sets and construction jobs. I guess OP didn’t see the 70 state troopers at the intersections directing traffic into and out of the games.
Maybe 80,000 taxpayers should just figure it out for themselves. That would show who has the smartest fans. On another note. The referees get escorted out of those games faster than the President. |

Or the retard who killed that tree for Alabama and went to jail, etc. It’s silly and trashy. View Quote Case in point, that retard bammer fan was a former state trooper - Texas DPS to be exact. Bear Bryant is said to have started the tradition. I believe Paterno saw it and decided he needed it too, things snowballed from there For the agencies, I understand it is something of a recruiting tool and also a way to incentivize standards. Notice most of the troopers who get these plum assignments are generally physically fit, squared away dudes. |

If you were paying someone $10M a year and did not have security at the games? Think about this and ask your question again.
